Gastric reflux and Fibromyalgia are two difficult conditions. On their own they cause so much pain and trouble ? together they make matters worse when it comes to disrupting your life. So, it is a good strategy to try and understand the link between gastric reflux and fibromyalgia, so you can find ways to ease the symptoms.

Fibromyalgia leads to aching joints and muscles and can make normal activities like getting out of bed or taking a bath a struggle. This pain is also accompanied by fatigue, headaches and sleep disturbances, which makes waking up in the middle of the night and struggling to go back to sleep a fairly frequent event.

Gastric Reflux and Fibromyalgia: A Link?

Sufferers of Fibromyalgia appear to also be at a higher risk of developing certain other conditions and GERD (Gastrointestinal Esophageal Reflux Disease) is one of them. GERD is a particularly severe form of acid reflux.

GERD is caused by acid produced in the stomach, along with food particles, refluxing into the esophagus. This can lead to a number of symptoms including burning feeling in the throat, chest pains, nausea and a bad taste in your mouth. The worst part is that gastric reflux often happens at night, waking you up and making you feel more tired and frustrated the next day. If GERD goes untreated it can cause health problems and even severe complications.

Around 60% of all Fibromyalgia sufferers also suffer with GERD, however the reason for this is not clear. The problem with GERD is that it can impact on your already interrupted sleep cycle, as the symptoms are often worse when lying down.

It is best to do everything you can to avoid gastric reflux once you already have fibromyalgia to contend with. Adding further interruptions to your sleep patterns will lead to worsening fibromyalgia symptoms, especially daytime fatigue.

Here are some of the techniques you can use to alleviate the effects of gastric reflux.

? Consulting a physician is imperative once you feel bouts of heartburn. The doctor can properly identify if it is gastric reflux you?re going through, and if you have a problem with acidity. The physician can also prescribe medications so that you can alleviate the pains of gastric reflux. This is also a good chance to ask about over-the-counter drugs.

? It is highly recommended that you change your position when you sleep. It is best to keep your head in an elevated position. This will allow gravity to help keep the acids in your stomach from splashing back into the esophagus or the throat. Adopting an elevated position can be a good way to ensure that your sleep is not effected by gastric reflux symptoms.

? Be sure also to avoid certain kinds of food. Spicy foods and alcohol can worsen the acid in your stomach. These elements can really aggravate the acids in your stomach. It is also helpful to consider some herbal remedies. These could help in maintaining a good balance in your system.

Gastric reflux and fibromyalgia do seem to be linked, although the reason for this link is unclear. However, there are steps you can take to address the gastric reflux to remove that complication from your life.

  4. Hope he comes back and whipes the field. I won’t be holding my breath for it though, seems he has given in to this distraction. He needs to just ignore the whiners who don’t like him. They didn’t like him before, and this just gives them MORE reasons to dislike him. That’s fine for them, more reason to come back and clean the field, smile all the way to the bank.
