This article is about “Did ina garten lose weight”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “Did ina garten lose weight”:

This is embarrassing to admit as a twenty-five year old woman of Italian descent, but I have never seen The Godfather, until last night that is. For many years, it has been brought to my attention that this is one of my serious deficiencies as a human being. As time went on, I knew I would have to put on a real Godfather celebration to appease the classic film gods, and as an Italian, I know that celebration means food. So, in order to make amends, I made the most quintessential Italian-American dish I could think of: spaghetti and meatballs.

Traditional spaghetti and meatballs are made with three kinds of meat, beef, pork, and veal, and parmesan cheese. Obviously, this does not gel with the vegan diet. Faux meat products fall into two categories: “looks like,” and “tastes like.” Well, these meatballs hit the jackpot and accomplish both, all without sending me into my typical Italian food coma. This recipe is so good that it makes veganism an offer you can’t refuse. To make it special, I also made my favorite tomato sauce, a recipe from the iconic Hamptons restaurant Nick and Toni’s. This sauce requires a little advance preparation, but it has a velvety texture, and a depth of flavor that heightens everything it touches.

To round out the meal, I served a red wine procured on my recent trip to Sonoma. My best friend Nisha and I stopped at the Mayo Family Winery, drawn in by the sign for a wine and food pairing menu. Unfortunately, the kitchen had closed ten minutes prior. Chef Max Porter-Elliot could probably sense our desperation and was kind enough to bring us a plate of bread, which I fell on blissfully. As it was our last stop of the day, we lingered for almost two hours, chatting with Max and later his girlfriend, trading restaurant recommendations with the other couple at the bar. Opening the bottle of 2005 Meritage brought back the pleasure of my experience at Mayo and added another level of enjoyment to the meal.

So having had a fantastic experience with The Godfather, I’m contemplating whether I should watch the whole trilogy. Perhaps this post will become a three part homage to the films through food. Hopefully this will inspire you to have an Italian dinner and movie night of your own!

Tomato Sauce

This recipe was introduced to me on Ina Garten’s show The Barefoot Contessa when she hosted the executive chef of Nick and Toni’s on her show.

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion chopped
3 cloves garlic minced
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 ½ teaspoons fresh or dried oregano
1 cup vodka
2 28 ounce cans whole tomatoes
Salt and Pepper
2 tablespoons fresh oregano

Heat oven to 375º. Add olive oil to an oven proof pan and turn stove to medium. Add the onions and garlic and sauté for 5 to 10 minutes. Add red pepper flakes and 1 ½ teaspoons oregano and sauté for another minute. Add the vodka and cook until the liquid is reduced by half. Drain the tomatoes and add them to the pan, crushing them in your fingers. Add salt and pepper. Cover with a lid and cook in the oven for 1 ½ hours. Then remove from the oven and allow to cool for 15 minutes. Pour mixture in a blender and purée. Return to the pan, add the remaining fresh oregano and simmer briefly. Add your favorite pasta and enjoy!

Eggplant Meatballs

3 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion diced
1 medium eggplant unpeeled, diced in ¼ to ½ inch cubes
1 ½ cups walnuts, toasted and roughly chopped
1 teaspoon salt
Pepper
2 cups dried bread crumbs
½ cup firm tofu, puréed
3 cloves garlic minced
Zest of 1 lemon
¼ cup fresh parsley chopped
1 Tablespoon fresh oregano chopped
½ cup basil chopped

Preheat oven to 375º. Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large skillet and sauté onion for five minutes. Add eggplant and salt and continue cooking for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the eggplant is tender. If eggplant sticks to the pan add more olive oil. Meanwhile, toast walnuts in the oven for 5 to 10 minutes and chop roughly. Add eggplant mixture and walnuts to a large bowl. Add a heaping cup of the mixture to the food processor and purée until smooth. Return the purée to the bowl and combine. Add 1 tablespoon olive oil, bread crumbs, tofu, garlic, lemon zest, parsley, oregano, and basil and mix well. Coat hands with a little olive oil and form mixture into balls roughly the size of a golf ball. Place on a greased cookie sheet, and spray lightly with a little oil. Place in the oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until they develop a dark brown crust on the outside. Remove from the oven, cover with foil, and allow to steam for five minutes. Add to the top of your pasta and sauce.

This article is about “Cooking channel mean thermometers”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “Cooking channel mean thermometers”:

There have been cooking shows on TV for a long time, but they were few and far between. Public TV channels used to show a few on Saturday and Sunday, but with the advent of the Food Network we have cooking shows on 24 hours a day. Cooks have now become celebrities, which is great.

The Food Network has a great range of cooking techniques that it caterers to, from – standard home cooking to Italian, French, Asian, etc. and gourmet cooking. You can find so many different cooking methods, from nutritional to just plain old junk food.

There are shows that show you how to get your children involved with the cooking, to meals for people who are on the go, and have to cook quickly. There are also shows for people who want to be gourmet cooks, and have the time and knowledge to cook elaborate meals.

One of my favorite shows is the Iron Chef. It is always amazing what people can do with the ingredients that they are given. These are professional chefs, who have to think about their cooking on the fly and communicate it to the people that are helping them. I could never do this, without spending a great deal of time researching it on the internet or in books. Watching this show also gives me some ideas about what I can do with my next meal or for a meal I will cook next week.

Check out some of the shows to see what you will like to watch, they are full of great ideas. Make sure that you have a pen and pencil ready to write down some of the recipes, because you will not remember them even for the next meal.

This article is about “One touch blood sugar”, we hope to bring more articles about “One touch blood sugar” in the near future:

For every diabetic monitoring your own blood glucose (sugar) levels can be vitally important in controlling your diabetes. The current treatments in diabetes whether medicines or diet focus on trying to keep blood sugar levels as close to normal as possible.

There are two main ways to monitor the body’s glucose levels, testing for “blood” glucose and testing for “urine” glucose. Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages. Which method you choose depends on what your doctor advises you.

Blood Glucose Meters

Testing blood glucose levels has become very simple and very accessible thanks to a whole range of blood glucose meters on the market. Checking glucose in this way is the most accurate method. This is especially important for patients with Type 1 Diabetes (Insulin dependent) and some patients with Type 2 Diabetes requiring insulin. This is because some these patients can make adjustments to their insulin dose depending on the blood glucose test results. Also patients with diabetes may experience very low blood glucose levels called “hypoglycaemia” or very high blood glucose levels called “hyperglycaemia”. Often there are signs and symptoms of both. Using a blood glucose meter to get an exact reading can help reassure or confirm that action must be taken.

How Does A Blood Glucose Meter Work?

The 2 main meters on the market at present are Accu-chek Aviva and One Touch Ultra. Both meters use the same basic principle. A blood sample is taken usually from the finger using a finger pricking device. The sample is placed on a specially coated test strip which is then inserted into the blood glucose meter. Within a minute the meter will give you a result. The main drawback of this method is that it does require pricking your finger each time to take a blood sample. This for some can be nuisance. However, with recent advances in meter technology the amount of blood required for Accu-chek Aviva and One Touch Ultra is minimal. This in turn leads to less pain when pricking the finger.

Urine Testing

Urine strips have the advantage of being pain free but the disadvantage of not bring as accurate as a blood glucose meter.

For some, urine testing is a more then adequate method to test glucose especially for diabetics who do not need exact blood glucose levels. Glucose can take time to appear in the urine. Thus always use a blood glucose meter when testing for low blood glucose levels (hypoglycaemia) as it will give you an accurate reading at that time.

How To Use Urine Testing Strips

The main two makes of glucose testing strips are Clinistix and Diastix. Click on Clinistix to learn more about how to use the urine strips.

Interpreting Your Results

How you interpret your results depends very much on the goals your doctor has set out for you and what you are testing for. A key point to remember is that blood glucose levels will be affected by food and diabetic medication.

This article is about “Byron burger”, we hope to bring more articles about “Byron burger” in the near future:

You can cut many corners on a holiday to London, staying at cheap hotels, keeping yourself to a daily spending budget, avoiding the tourist-trap souvenir shops. But if you’re not careful, you can end up spending a small fortune on dining out.

The old image of London as a city of bad food is a thing of the past; however most people think you need to spend a small fortune to find decent nosh. But you really don’t need to spend a ton of money to enjoy exceptional food. As a part of an all-around budget-conscious holiday, hit the following five places to save big on great eats …

1. Byron – Located in the massive new Westfield shopping centre in White City, west London, Byron beats back the burger chains as the ultimate place to enjoy a hamburger and crispy french fries on the cheap. The Byron burger is not to be missed.

2. Baozi Inn – If you’re in the city and the mood for a Chinese, never fear: you don’t have to hand over a huge chunk of your salary to enjoy top notch Chinese. For less than a tenner, you can enjoy a complete lunch with all the trimmings. The food is fresh and delicious, and you can enjoy it there or bring it back to cheap London hotels and have it in your room.

3. The Chippy – Coming to London and not dining at a proper chip shop is ludicrous; you can nosh on phenomenal fish and chips that is literally “as cheap as chips” by stopping by The Chippy, just off Oxford Street in Poland Street, Soho. Centrally located, The Chippy typically offers monstrous portions for less than eight quid. You’ll probably end up with enough left over to share with someone else.

4. Princi – Usually, when Italian food comes to mind, so do high prices. But Soho’s Princi is a gem of an exception. Here you can tuck into a phenomenal Italian meal for an amazing price. In fact, a meal for two at Princi will cost you less than GBP30 — truly an offer you can’t refuse.

5. Tayyabs – For less than 25 quid, you and a friend can enjoy a fine Indian by stopping in at Tayyabs in Whitechapel. Meat is the focus here, so you definitely won’t be leaving hungry. Since the portions are so generous, sharing is encouraged; on top of saving big, you’ll get to sample a lot more food — a win-win for any hungry traveler.

As part of a complete package for the budget-conscious traveller who has studied the London hotel deals, planned the daily souvenir hunt like a military campaign and even researched which West End pubs sell the cheapest beer, eating out for less is simply the icing on the cake. Now there’s no need to make a meal of it.

This article is about “Iams dog”, we hope to bring more articles about “Iams dog” in the near future:

When you know there are a pet, you know the price of owning a couple of things that all pets need. The first is lots of love and attention, but that’s pretty much a given. The second thing pets need is food. And lots of it. That’s why it’s important to understand the cost of owning a dog before you buy one, so your dog will have enough food. Let’s run the numbers shall we? We could say your dog eats 10 pounds of food a week, and you buy 20 pound bags of Iams dog food.

If there are roughly 52 weeks in a year, and you are shelling twenty-six dollars out every fortnight, that means you’re buying 26 bags of bags of twenty pound dog food containers a year. Iams dog food keep that dog you have proliferated to several different papers and Internet sites world wide, making it easier than ever to economize on your dog food! Dog food coupons are easily accessible to people who know where to look for them, and one of the finest places I know is Dogfood-coupon.com. Those are priceless.

Now there is an easier way to get those coupons, and with that simplicity of use comes the comfort of knowing that you can afford to keep that dog you have always wanted. If Sparky’s starting to thin out too much, it could be time to start fishing for coupons so you can home your dog’s stomach into your position. In fact, if you are unable to afford to feed your dog, you most likely should not have one. Great Dog food coupons are in high demand now, and you want to get good deals you must be quick on the draw. Ok, so I guess I can’t help but mention the best way to get a deal, and that’s to let your dog eat your neighbor’s food. That is always the way I used to feed my dog. Till my neighbor got a blow dart gun and began shooting darts at my small Fido. Now Fido is shocked of going outside, and wets the bed at night. So just ask yourself next time you send your small FeFe adjacent to rob their food, is your neighbor a member of the NRA?

This article is about “Bordeaux wine”, we hope to bring more articles about “Bordeaux wine” in the near future:

This biodynamic wine comes from a very dynamic Bordeaux wine producer, Olivier Decelle who started out in frozen foods. His first day’s revenue was 10 francs (about $2.50). By the time he got into wine he owned some 400 frozen food outlets. This particular bottle carries the Appelation Fronsac Controlee, grown in a not very prestigious zone of Bordeaux. The Fronsac area may have hosted the first vineyards in Bordeaux. A long time ago its wines ranked better than those of neighboring Pomerol that are now quite pricey. Fronsac is considered an up-and-coming region. If you’re willing to spend more, check out neighboring Cotes-Canon-Fronsac AOC wines. This particular wine is made from Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec grapes.

OUR WINE REVIEW POLICY All wines that we taste and review are purchased at the full retail price.

Wine Reviewed

Chateau Bellevue 2005 13.5% alcohol about $19

Let’s start by quoting the marketing materials. Description: Chateau Bellevue lies just outside of Saint-Michel de Fronsac in the heart of the Right Bank. Olivier Decelle purchased the estate in 2000 and his commitment to quality is plain to see, investing heavily in the vineyard and winery as well as introducing biodynamic methods of viticulture. Well structured, with ripe tannins, and beautiful ripe, red fruit, this wine is clearly part of the new wave of classically made, affordable Bordeaux coming out of minor appellations. And now for my review.

At the first sips the wine was powerful and mouth filling, well balanced, and very slightly sweet. The first pairing was with barbecued beef ribs, potatoes roasted in chicken fat, and broccoli and cauliflower in tomato sauce with basil, onion, cumin, and garlic. With the meat, this Bordeaux blend was round and presented a fine balance between its acidity and tannins. It was subtle. It washed the potatoes’ grease away. The veggies brought out the wine’s black cherries and its darkness.

The next meal consisted of chicken legs, chickpeas, and potatoes in broth with some tomato and onion. This was an old French-style bouillon meal although I’m not sure how much they knew about chickpeas then and there. The Cab was quite long and tasted of dark grapes mixed with tobacco.

My final meal was a boxed Eggplant Parmiagana slathered with grated Parmesan cheese. The wine was long and mouth filling; the dominant tastes were tobacco and menthol.

I finished this tasting bottle with two local cheeses. When paired with an Emmenthaler (Swiss) the wine was mouth filling and dark, but its tannins were of the melt-in-your mouth variety. It had great balance. With an Asiago cheese the wine was weaker than in the previous pairing but it was still fine.

Final verdict. I would buy this wine again. I definitely was worth the price, ever more so if you are looking for a biodynamic wine. I think both the producer and the region are worth watching.
