<p>Your first steps out of the bed result in almost unbearable pain in your foot&#8230; it feels like a hot poker has just been inserted into your foot with every step; and this is now happening every morning without exception.</p>
<p>After you&#8217;ve been up for awhile the pain may subside just a bit, but make no mistake it is there to be with you throughout your day. A warm shower provides some relief but only temporary and you know you&#8217;ve got to do something but what?</p>
<p>If this describes what you are going through with your foot, chances are you are suffering from plantar fasciitis. The plantar fascia is the tissue along the bottom of the foot that essentially connects your heel to the toes. Under stress and strain this tissue can become inflamed or even tear. When this happens the classic symptoms are the severe pain with the first steps in the morning or after having been off your feet for a while.</p>
<p>Keeping in mind that the primary cause of plantar fasciitis is stress and strain, it is no surprise that footwear&#8230; or more specifically ill fitted or worn out footwear that provides little or no support places undue stress on the bottom of your foot and arch is one of the most common causes. So, first and foremost, make sure that your shoes are flexible, comfortable, and offer the proper support.</p>
<p>The personality of plantar fasciitis pain (most severe in the morning or after you&#8217;ve been off your feet for awhile &#8211; then lessening somewhat as your foot warms up) gives you the clue as to how to best treat your pain. As you sleep at night or are off of your feet, the plantar fascia will begin to cool and contract and this is precisely why those first steps are so painful&#8230; you are stepping onto you plantar fascia that is tight and not ready to bear the load.</p>
<p>So, the first order of business is to stretch the area not only in the mornings but throughout the day! Simple stretching exercises that stretch the Achilles tendon area will also get at the plantar fascia and provide relief. In the mornings before you step down on your foot, use a towel or belt and put it underneath your toes and gently pull the ball of your foot toward you and hold for a few seconds to get the tissue stretched after a night of sleep. You may wish to consider purchasing a night splint. A night splint is a device that attaches to your calf and foot that helps keep your Achilles and plantar fascia in a lengthened position as you sleep. Orthotics (semi rigid inserts that go in your shoe) that are available at many sports stores can also provide relief throughout the day.</p>
<p>Remember keep stretching throughout the day as much as possible.</p>
<p>Treatment of plantar fasciitis is very similar to treating any type of athletic or sports related stress or strain; and that is by the effective use of cold and warm therapy.</p>
<p>At the end of the day always begin with cold therapy. During the course of the day your foot is going to already get warmed up and probably experience some swelling. At the end of the day first apply a cold pack for at least twenty minutes. Then remove the cold for twenty minutes and apply a heating pad (or a warm soak) for twenty minutes. Repeat this process with at least three cold treatments with two warm treatments sandwiched between. Always begin and end with the cold.</p>
<p>This is know as a contrast bath and is very effective at treating inflammation and the resulting pain. Although more time consuming it is the best treatment that you have readily available to you.</p>
<p>If in spite of your dedicated effort to self care and self treat your plantar fasciitis you should set an appointment with your doctor. Be sure to advise your doctor of all the details that you have been doing to combat your pain, so they don&#8217;t merely send you home with a similar program. Your doctor may agree that it may be time for a referral to a podiatrist.</p>

<p>Did you know that over 65 million Americans suffer with lower back pain? This number is staggering to the imagination that so many people are really having a bad go of it. You&#8217;d like to be able to get rid of the pain and tension this causes in your life. Some people cannot sleep with their spouses and maintain separate quarters.</p>
<p>Is this you?</p>
<p>Some causes for lower back pain is simply do to pregnancy. The <i>pregnancy back pain</i> is no different than any other pain you feel. Your body gets an alarm that &#8220;something&#8221; is not right. You are so restricted from taking any type of pain reliever because of fear of harming the baby growing inside of you.</p>
<p>Here are a few things you can try&#8230;now keep in mind that before you do any of these things you NEED to talk with YOUR doctor before engaging in these tips.</p>
<p>* The first option to consider is a <i>natural medicine</i>. These remedies have been around for generations and have proven themselves over time. Why not give it a shot? If you go to any online store like a <i>Whole Foods Market </i>you should be able to read up on the products before ordering. The beauty of the internet is that you can pretty much order anything online and have it delivered right to your door. This is great news because the second most searched for pain reliever online is that of foot pain. Foot pain is a topic we&#8217;ll discuss another time but suffice it to say that with the added   weight of the baby plus the stress of being on your feet all day. Compounded with very &#8220;unfriendly shoes&#8221; that do not yield one iota of support &#8211; your feet are taking a pounding. Literally.</p>
<p>*Lower back pain stretching is another alternative to taking the pills. But really I&#8217;d suggest that you try more than one treatment at a time. Sure you can take the all natural pain reliever. But do so only after you&#8217;ve consulted with your doctor and have yourself read up on the ingredients. Do the stretches we are outlining here and take the pain reliever. Many patients seem to think that they can only do one or the other but that is just not try. Compound these options revealed here. If you do stretch your lower back you&#8217;ll be working with the soft tissues. These muscles, ligaments and tendons are essential to your lower back pain relief.</p>
<p>*Right now try this simple flexion stretch. You do it by standing or sitting whichever you prefer. If you ride the subway train or drive along you may be able to modify it just a bit and still get some relief on the go. So, if you are sitting or standing, softly bend your head forward and strive to bring the chin in towards the chest. You will feel a slight stretch in the rear of your neck. If you experience any pain you must stop this movement. So go slow and be very gentle. Hold that position for say four counts. It also helps if you breath in and out to calm your body down to.</p>
<p>*The lateral flexion stretch can work wonders for your low back pain. In this movement you are standing upright. With your hands held close to your sides (like a soldier posing) slightly bend to your right. Think to yourself that you are trying to touch your knee. Hold that tension for say 4 counts. Then return to center. Next, you&#8217;ll do the same thing but in the opposite direction. Which either one, be sure to keep your breathing in and out steadily. This supplies just the right amount of oxygen and is also great for calming your pain down. <p>* Lastly, you can do these back exercises on a mat or a carpeted floor in your office. You can lie down on your back of course. Your knees are bent with your hands resting on them. In this exercise you are going to try to bring your knees into your chest. Depending on how many months you are along you may find this not so easy to do. If that is the case  be sure to look for other articles on this subject on this website for alternatives.</p>

<p>Carpal tunnel pain and symptoms always have a cause.&nbsp; ALL pain does.&nbsp; Pain doesn&#8217;t happen without a reason.&nbsp;A &#8220;symptom&#8221; is numbness, burning, tingling or pain.&nbsp; Any kind of discomfort is a symptom.&nbsp; Symptoms call your attention to the fact that something is not right.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Poor posture is a primary and common cause of many pain symptoms including those in your hand, arm and wrist.&nbsp; But, poor posture is commonly overlooked as a cause of pain.</p>
<p>When you collapse forward (which is also called &#8220;forward head&#8221; posture) the nerves that pass near your collar bone get compressed.&nbsp; These are the nerves that supply your hand and arm with sensation.&nbsp; The nerves don&#8217;t like having pressure on them and so they cause symptoms in and around your carpal tunnel area.</p>
<p>Poor posture can cause Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in another way, too.&nbsp; When muscles and other soft tissues (not bones) get stretched or overworked, they can develop spots that &#8220;fire&#8221; elsewhere.&nbsp; This means that muscles in your back and chest can develop &#8220;trigger points&#8221; that cause pain in your&#8211;you guessed it&#8211;hand, wrist and arm.</p>
<p><strong>How do you know whether your posture is poor or good?&nbsp; </strong></p>
<p>Here&#8217;s one way:&nbsp; Stand up and let your arms drop to where they normally would.&nbsp; Look down at your thumbs.&nbsp; If they are pointed toward each other, that means the muscles in your chest are tight.&nbsp; They have shortened and are probably pulling you forward and down.</p>
<p><strong>What can you do to correct poor posture?&nbsp; </strong></p>
<p>There are two parts to this:&nbsp;</p>
<p>(1)&nbsp; Stretch, relax or loosen the short, tight muscles in the front of your body.&nbsp;<br />
<br />(2) Strengthen the weak muscles in the back of your body.</p>
<p><strong>How did you start to collapse?</strong></p>
<p>You used to have strong, straight posture.&nbsp; Almost every one of us did when we were small children.&nbsp; But then, we stopped using ALL of our muscles.&nbsp; We sat in furniture that didn&#8217;t fit us.&nbsp; We began to develop faulty habits of sitting or using our body incorrectly.</p>
<p>You used to have perfect posture and you can again.&nbsp; Your body is very smart and wants to be well.&nbsp; It just needs a little help from you.&nbsp; By educating yourself, you can discover what you need to do to get your straight, strong body back.</p>
<p>When you have a strong back, the shorter, tighter muscles in the front of your body won&#8217;t always be able to win the tug-of-war and pull you forward.&nbsp; When your posture is more upright, you will have less pain in your hands, wrists and arms (and everywhere else, too.)&nbsp;</p>

<p>Cancer is a class of diseases characterized by out of control cell growth. Lung cancer occurs when this uncontrolled cell growth begins in one or both lungs. The lungs are two large spongy organs located inside the chest cavity. Air is breathed into the trachea and moves down two tubes called bronchi, each going to a lung. Lung cancer occurs most often in adults between the ages of 40 and 70 who have smoked cigarettes for at least 20 years.</p>
<p>Over 1,400 Victorians are diagnosed with every year. Only about 2% of those diagnosed with lung cancer that has spread to other areas of the body are alive five years after the diagnosis, although the survival rates are diagnosed at a very early stage are higher with approximately 49% surviving for five years or longer.</p>
<p>There are different types of lung cancer, depending on which cells are affected. The two main types are:</p>
<p>1. Small cell carcinom<br />
<br />Around 15 per cent are small cell carcinomas. This type of cancer spreads early and shows few early symptoms.</p>
<p>2. Non-small cell carcinoma<br />
<br />These cancers affect the cells that line the main bronchi.</p>
<p>Some lung tumors are metastatic from cancers elsewhere in the body. The lungs are a common site for metastasis. Since lung cancer tends to spread or metastasize very early in its course, it is a very life-threatening cancer and one of the most difficult cancers to treat. While lung cancer can spread to any organ in the body.</p>
<p>Symptoms are varied depending upon where and how widespread the tumor is. Warning signs of lung cancer are not always present or easy to identify. Lung cancer symptoms may take years before appearing, usually after the disease is in an advanced stage.</p>
<p>Below is the following symptoms of lung cancer include:</p>
<p>1. Pain in the chest shoulder or back from coughing</p>
<p>2. A cough that does not go away or gets worse over time</p>
<p>3. Breathlessness and swallowing</p>
<p>4. Recurring pneumonia or chest infections</p>
<p>5. Wheezing or hoarseness may signal blockage</p>
<p>6. Unexplained weight loss</p>
<p>Lung cancer is categorized into stages according to its spread. This helps the doctors to decide on appropriate treatments. The treatments also depend on the type of cancer, age, health status and additional personal characteristics. As there is usually no single treatment for cancer, patients often receive a combination of therapies and palliative care. More than one type of therapy may be prescribed.</p>
<p>Although the diagnostic techniques provided important information, extracting cancer cells and looking at them under a microscope is the only absolute way to diagnose lung cancer. This procedure is called a biopsy. If the biopsy confirms lung cancer, a pathologist will determine whether it is non-small cell or small cell.</p>
<p>Small cell lung cancer has two stages which is:</p>
<p>1. In the limited stage, the tumor exists in one lung and in nearby lymph nodes.</p>
<p>2. In the extensive stage, the tumor has infected the other lung as well as other organs in the body.</p>
<p>For non-small cell lung cancer, these stages are labeled from I to IV. The lower numbers indicate earlier stages where the cancer has spread less:</p>
<p>1. Stage I is when the tumor is found only in one lung and in no lymph nodes.</p>
<p>2. Stage II is when the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes surrounding the infected lung.</p>
<p>3. Stage III is when the cancer has spread to lymph nodes around the trachea, chest wall and diaphragm on the same side as the infected lung.</p>
<p>4. Stage IV is when the cancer has spread to lymph nodes on the other lung or in the neck.</p>
<p>5. Stage IV is when the cancer has spread throughout the rest of the body and other parts of the lungs.</p>
<p>As with most cancers, the results are best if the cancer is diagnosed in its earliest stages. However, some lung cancers aren&#8217;t diagnosed until they are quite advanced. Treatment may then be limited to easing the symptoms. Treatment decisions depend on whether SCLC or NSCLC. Treatment options include:</p>
<p>1. Chemotherapy is an anti cancer drugs are given to stop cancer cells from multiplying. This treatment is most effective for small cell carcinoma.</p>
<p>2. Surgery to remove the affected part of the lung or an entire lung. This offers the best chance of cure if the cancer has not spread beyond the lungs.</p>
<p>3. Radiotherapy use of x-rays to target and kill cancer cells. It may be used against some early stage lung cancers and to stop cancer in the lymph nodes from spreading further.</p>
<p>4. Targeted therapy is use of small molecules, often in tablet form that may be used after chemotherapy.</p>
<p>5. Clinical trials is a participation in a clinical trial that investigates the safety and effectiveness of novel drugs may be offered.</p>
<p>Cancers that are closely linked to certain behaviors are the easiest to prevent. If you are a current tobacco user, quitting can still greatly reduce your chances of getting cancer. The most important preventive measure you can take is to quit smoking. Many products such as nicotine gum, nicotine sprays, nicotine inhalers have been successfully used to help people trying to quit smoking.</p>
<p>There are common causes of lung cancer:</p>
<p>1. A person who smokes more than one pack of cigarettes per day has a risk 20-25 times greater than someone who has never smoked.</p>
<p>2. Cigar and pipe smoking increases the risk of lung cancer but not as much as smoking cigarettes.</p>
<p>3. Asbestos fibers are silicate fibers that can persist for a lifetime in lung tissue following exposure to asbestos. The workplace is a common source of exposure to asbestos fibers.</p>
<p>4. Radon gas is a natural chemically inert gas that is a natural decay product of uranium. With an estimated 12% deaths attributable to radon gas.</p>
<p>5. Air pollution from vehicles, industry, and power plants can raise the likelihood of developing lung cancer in exposed individuals</p>
<p>Screening techniques are designed to find cancer at the earliest stage so that the most treatment options are available. This cancer are detected in the late stages of the disease after they have spread and are harder to treat. Possible lung cancer screening tests include analysis of sputum cells, fiberoptic examination of bronchial passages and low-dose spiral CT scans.</p>
<p>Cancer and cancer treatments can make a person feel too tired to exercise. However, studies show that, physical activity can boost the energy levels of a person who has cancer.</p>
<p>Regular exercise improves functioning of the immune system and may increase survival rates in some cases. Aim for five to 20 minutes of moderate intensity exercise on most days of the week. But do not exercise without your doctor&#8217;s knowledge and support because inappropriate exercise may be harmful.</p>

<p>The name &#8216;heartburn&#8217; describes the burning sensation in the chest near the heart.</p>
<p>In fact, it has nothing to do with the heart &#8212; heartburn results from irritation of the esophagus caused by acid reflux (the backing up of digestive acids).</p>
<p>Heartburn itself could be a relatively mild ailment that most people experience from time to time. On the other hand, it could be a symptom of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD).</p>
<p>This is a dangerous condition that could eventually lead to life threatening consequences.</p>
<p>See your health care provider if you regularly experience heartburn twice a week or more.</p>
<p>Typical Acid Reflux Symptoms<br />

<ul>
<li>Pain and a burning sensation behind the breastbone, which sometimes radiates to the back. This usually occurs after eating and can last from a couple of minutes to a couple of hours.</li>
<li>The feeling that food is stuck in the throat or in the middle of the chest.</li>
<li>Sometimes heartburn causes a dry cough, hoarseness and a sore throat.</li>
<li>Regurgitation &#8211; Food &#8220;repeating&#8221; after a meal and causing burning in the back of the throat and a sour or acidic taste in the mouth.</li>
<li>An upset stomach, (dyspepsia).</li>
</ul>
<p>Dyspepsia is another name for stomach discomfort. Here are the symptoms:</p>
<p>*Burping.<br />
<br />*After dinner nausea.<br />
<br />*An uncomfortable bloated feeling.<br />
<br />*Discomfort in the upper abdominal area.</p>
<p>A quick fix for heartburn is to take a level teaspoonful of &#8216;Arm &#038; Hammer&#8217; bicarbonate of soda dissolved in a quarter glass of warm water.</p>
<p>The human body produces small amounts of bicarbonate. In fact, saliva contains traces of this substance, which acts as natural antacid and digestive aid.</p>
<p>Many over the counter antacids contain harmful aluminum sulfide. Consequently, bicarbonate is a far safer alternative to these expensive medications.</p>
<p>Bottom line?</p>
<p>&#8216;Arm &#038; Hammer&#8217; bicarbonate contains zero additives. What&#8217;s more, it will knock your acid reflux symptoms for a loop quicker and more efficiently than most other antacids.</p>
<p><b>Could the Pain in my Chest be a Heart Attack?</b></p>

<li>Chest pain feels like heartburn, but does not respond to antacids.</li>
<li>Upper body pain.</li>

<li>Pain radiates out to the back, neck, jaw, or stomach.</li>
<li>It feels as if someone is tightening a belt around your chest.</li>
<li>You feel lightheaded or dizzy.</li>
<li>You have trouble breathing.</li>
<li>You feel confused or disorientated.</li>
<li>You feel anxious and have a strong sense of impending doom.</li>
<li>You break out into a cold sweat, followed by nausea and sometimes even vomiting.</li>

<p>Back pain is a discomfort most commonly located in the lumbar (lower) region of the spine and surrounding tissues. It is an extremely common ailment and is most often caused by injury or stress to a muscle, ligament, bone, or nerve. Low back pain can become chronic if the cause of the discomfort is not properly treated.</p>
<p><b>Question: What are common causes of back pain?</b></p>
<p>The most common causes of back pain are sudden tears or strains of the muscles, tendons, or ligaments of the back. The area of such tears is tender to the touch, and the pain is increased by moving about. Pain also can be caused by chronic strain to the back caused by curvatures of the spine (lordosis, kyphosis, scoliosis), having one leg shorter than the other, bad posture, or repetitive lifting of heavy objects.</p>
<p><b>Question: What is a slipped disk?</b></p>
<p>A &#8220;slipped,&#8221; or herniated, disk occurs when one of the intervertebral disks, which serve to separate the vertebrae and act to absorb the shock of motion, slips out of place. This displacement can compress a spinal nerve and place a strain on the surrounding ligaments. This can also result in sciatica, where pressure on the sciatic nerve causes pain down one or both of the legs.</p>
<p><b>Question: What other spinal disorders cause back pain?</b></p>
<p>Pain can result from osteoarthritis, where the roughened surface of the bone results in local irritation. In osteoporosis, the bones become brittle due to lack of calcium; vertebrae can, therefore, collapse, resulting in pain and possible nerve compression. In young and middle-aged people, a disorder that causes the vertebrae to fuse together (ankylosing spondylitis) produces pain and gradual stiffening of the spine. Also cancer can spread to a vertebra with resulting pain.</p>
<p>Chronic deformities of the spine (lordosis, kyphosis, scoliosis) can result in pain, as can a condition called spondylolisthesis, in which one or more vertebrae are not correctly formed. This can lead to partial dislocation of the spine.</p>
<p><b>Question: What nerve disorders cause back pain?</b></p>
<p>A tumor of the spine can cause back pain. But, more commonly, back pain of neurologic origin results from inflammation of a nerve.</p>
<p><b>Question: Apart from causes directly associated with the spine, what other disorders can result in backache?</b></p>
<p>A low ache in the back often occurs in women before the onset of menstruation or as part of a painful menstrual period (dysmenorrheal). Other gynecological disorders may also cause backache. Pain from a kidney infection (such as pyelonephritis) often occurs in the lower or mid-back. A dull ache high in the back may be a symptom of a chest disorder.</p>
<p><b>Question: What is the treatment for back pain?</b></p>
<p>Painkilling drugs, such as acetaminophen or aspirin, can be taken to relieve pain due to a minor strain of a ligament or muscle. For more severe pains, a physician may prescribe a strong, anti-inflammatory and/or muscle relaxant drug.</p>
<p>Rest can be a very important aid in back pain treatment. The patient should rest in a position that will straighten out the lower back, such as on the back with the knees supported in a bent position by a pillow, or lying on the side with the head supported by a pillow. A firm mattress is essential.</p>
<p>Treatment by physical therapy may include exercise, massage, or local heat. The spine may be carefully stretched using traction; a patient is usually hospitalized for this treatment. If back pain is severe, prolonged, or accompanied by serious symptoms, such as a fever or a weakness in a leg, it is important that a physician be consulted immediately.</p>
<p><b>Question: What everyday precautions can help relieve or prevent back pain?</b></p>
<p>Correct posture, a firm mattress, and strengthening of the muscles by means of careful exercise all can help to relieve some types of backache. Maintaining correct body weight (by dieting, if necessary) also helps to prevent backache. Being overweight puts extra strain on the spine. It is important to remember, when lifting objects, to bend at the knees and hips, rather than at the waist. This allows use of more powerful leg muscles and avoids strain on the back. Also, when carrying something in the arms, it should be held close to the body, rather than with outstretched arms.</p>

<p>The symptoms of acid reflux syndrome are primarily heartburn and nausea.  Some regurgitation of acid and/or foods may be present.  While it is not a common symptom, some people do experience acid reflux chest pain.  However, any chest pain should be thoroughly evaluated by a physician to rule out heart disease.</p>
<p>According to the Mayo clinic, chest pain that is not related to heart disease is most commonly caused by acid reflux syndrome or GERD, which is gastro-esophageal reflux.  The terms are used interchangeably.  In order to determine if a person is experiencing acid reflux chest pain, doctors may use tests to measure acid levels in the esophagus, this is the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach.  A symptoms diary is also helpful to determine if the pain is acid reflux chest pain or another condition.  If a person notes that the chest pain occurs when other acid reflux syndrome symptoms are present, then the doctor may conclude that the pain is caused by the acid reflux syndrome.</p>
<p>Studies have shown that between 22 and 66 percent of patients who had chest pain that was not related to heart disease suffered from acid reflux syndrome.  This is not to say that all non-cardiac chest pain is acid reflux chest pain, there are other possible causes.  Researchers have investigated the possibility that some chest pain, not caused by heart disease or acid reflux syndrome, may be caused by a heightened sensitivity to pain in some organs.  Studies have shown that in some patients, the muscles of some organs are sensitive and quick to send pain signals to the brain.  No one knows why this happens, but research does continue.</p>
<p>Once the determination is made that no heart disease is present, treatment of acid reflux chest pain is no different form treatment of acid reflux syndrome without chest pain.  Antacids or proton pump inhibitors are commonly prescribed.  Acid reflux syndrome should be carefully monitored to be sure that stomach acid is not damaging the esophagus.  It does not appear that acid reflux chest pain is related to damage of the esophagus.</p>
<p>Some people prefer to treat acid reflux syndrome with herbs or botanicals and dietary or lifestyle changes.  If these effectively reduce stomach acid, then they should relieve the acid reflux chest pain.  Some lifestyle changes that can help relieve acid reflux syndrome include giving up tobacco and/or alcohol use and weight loss.  Some dietary changes that can relieve acid reflux syndrome include eating smaller meals more frequently and removing highly acidic, fried and fatty foods from the diet.</p>
<p>There are many herbs and botanicals that may relieve acid reflux syndrome and therefore acid reflux chest pain.  These include fennel seed or oil, ginger root, chamomile and aloe.  These ingredients and others are sometimes combined by herbalists to create a product for relief of acid reflux syndrome.</p>
<p>It has been said that acid reflux chest pain can mimic heart pain, but most people experience a burning sensation rather than a sharp, squeezing pain.  The symptoms and intensity of acid reflux syndrome symptoms vary greatly.  In addition to acid reflux chest pain, most people experience nausea, but some people actually vomit.  In cases of unexplained vomiting, acid reflux syndrome is one of the first conditions that doctors suspect. <p>Many people experience lower left side back pain, which can last for days, weeks or months at a time. Common symptoms may include localized pain below the ribs and around the side of the torso. In addition, lower left side back pain may be intermittent in frequency in which it is more tolerable during certain hours of the day. Often times, people who have lower left side back pain will notice a stabbing or dull, aching pain. Many people may also be hyper-sensitive to touch, which stays localized to the lower left side of the back. For others, the pain remains unaffected even with changes in dietary habits. Some people who have lower left side back pain may also experience discomfort when taking deep breaths, lying still or during exercise. Changes in bowel movements may also be accompanied with lower left side back pain.</p>
<p>Frustration can be a common emotion for many people experiencing these symptoms because many doctors have trouble finding an accurate diagnosis. Even extensive testing such as medical imaging, colonoscopy, ultrasound, heart scan, blood tests, urine tests and stool tests may all come out normal.</p>
<p>Your doctor may prescribe pain medication, which may or may not help alleviate your pain. Although it is difficult to remain patient during period, please remember that lower left side back pain can be caused by many factors, which make it very difficult to diagnose your condition. If you and your doctor have tried every approach to diagnosing and treating your pain, ask your physician to refer you to a specialist. If you have tried this approach without much success, you may want to consider seeing a new physician. Doctors are very knowledgeable about medical conditions but some may have more expertise and relevant experience with your particular condition. The key to your success is finding a physician who is willing to work with you in treating your condition.</p>
<p>Here is a list of conditions which can cause pain in the lower left side of the back:</p>
<p>Hypochondrial pain: Symptoms include pain under the rib cage, which can be referred from the colon or spleen.</p>
<p>Ectopic pregnancy: A woman with a developing ectopic pregnancy may not display any signs or symptoms of being pregnant. Symptoms include lower abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding, cramping or stabbing pain around the pelvic area, dizziness and felling lightheaded.</p>
<p>Endometriosis: Symptoms may include pain in the pelvis, abdomen and lower back. Heavy flow of vaginal bleeding may accompany these symptoms.</p>
<p>Pancreatitis: Symptoms that are chronic may include indigestion, abdominal pain, back pain, weight loss and steatorrhea (stool that is appears oily and foul smelling).</p>
<p>Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS): Also known as spastic colon, IBS may be accompanied by abdominal pain, diarrhea, headaches, low back pain and chest pain.</p>
<p>Peptic Ulcer: Symptoms may include a burning pain in the chest, nausea, vomiting, weight loss, change in appetite and back pain.</p>
<p>Gastroesophageal Reflux Disorder: Symptoms may include heartburn, chest pain, back pain, difficulty swallowing or dry cough.</p>
<p>Gastrointestinal bleeding: Common causes include esophageal varices, stomach ulcer, erosions of the esophagus, duodenum or stomach; duodenal ulcer, abnormal blood vessels, colon cancer, anal fissures, colon polyps, diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease, internal hemorrhoids and inflammation of the large bowels.</p>
<p>Celiac Disease: Symptoms of celiac disease may mimic those of other conditions such as anemia, parasite infections, irritable bowel syndrome, gastric ulcers and skin disorders. Symptoms may include joint pain, weight loss, back pain, weakness and fatigue, bone disorders such as osteoporosis, diarrhea, abdominal cramps and anemia.</p>
<p>Radicular pain: This occurs when there is irritation or compression along the nerves exiting the spine. Symptoms include pain that is accompanied by weakness, numbness or a tingling sensation. Causes of radicular pain can be due to injury, trauma, soft tissue, disc degeneration, disc herniation, facet syndrome or bony changes to the vertebral column.</p>
<p>Kidney stones: Symptoms include pain below the ribs, pain around the torso and back pain. It is also common to experience pain radiating into the lower abdomen and groin region. Other symptoms include pain during urination, nausea and vomiting.</p>
<p>Gallstones: Symptoms may include pain between the shoulder blades, pain in the center and upper right region of the abdomen, back pain and pain into the right shoulder. Additional symptoms may include abdominal pain after eating meals.</p>
<p>Problems with the adrenal gland: Common symptoms include headaches, dizziness when standing up or changing positions quickly, sensitivity to bright lights and low back pain.</p>

<p>There are many causes of pain in the shoulder blades. Pain between the shoulder blades can occur as a result of mundane problems such as working at the computer too long without a break. Some causes though are serious and must be addressed immediately.</p>
<p>Here are some them:</p>
<p>Gall Bladder Pain</p>
<p>Sporadic pains in the middle of the upper abdomen, or just below the ribs on the right side are felt. The pain may spread to the right shoulder or between the shoulder blades. The pain can be accompanied by nausea and vomiting and sometimes excessive gas. The attack can last from a few minutes to two to three hours before getting better. The frequency and severity of attacks is very variable. Attacks can be triggered by eating fatty foods such as chocolate, cheese or pastry. It can be difficult to distinguish the pain from other diseases, such as: gastric ulcer, back problems, heart pains, pneumonia and kidney stones.</p>
<p>Neck source from arthritis or disc disease</p>
<p>This is a general pain located in the neck area and may be associated with stiffness in the neck muscles. The pain may radiate down to the shoulder or between the shoulder blades. It may also radiate out into the arm, the hand, or up into the head, causing a one-sided or double-sided headache. The muscles in the neck are tense, sore and feel hard to the touch. Acute pain can give rise to abnormal neck posture in which the head is forced to turn to one side; this condition is known as torticollis.<br />
<br />The pain at the base of the skull may be accompanied by a feeling of weakness in the shoulders and arms. There may be a prickly or tingling sensation in the arms and fingers.</p>
<p>Angina Pectoris</p>
<p>Angina pectoris derives from Latin and translates as &#8216;tight chest&#8217;. It feels like a heavy, crushing pain or a constricting feeling in the center of the chest behind the breast bone (sternum) or on the left side of the front of the chest. The pain can radiate out to either one or both arms, more often the left. It can be experienced in the throat, jaw, the stomach and, more rarely, between the shoulder blades.</p>
<p>Angina is often brought on by:</p>
<p>? physical exercise</p>
<p>? psychological stress</p>
<p>? extreme cold</p>
<p>? a heavy meal.</p>
<p>Once these trigger factors stop, the pain generally ends quickly, usually within 2 to 10 minutes.</p>
<p>Liver Cancer</p>
<p>Liver cancer, an abnormal cell growth in the liver presents in two ways:</p>
<p>? Primary cancer means that the cancer started in the liver</p>
<p>? Secondary cancer of the liver occurs when a cancer starts someplace else and spreads to the liver.</p>
<p>The early warning signs of liver cancer:</p>
<p>A hard lump in the abdomen, below the rib cage on the right side.</p>
<p>Discomfort in the upper abdomen on the right side. </p>
<p>Pain around the right shoulder blade, or pain between the shoulder blades.</p>
<p>Yellowish skin color (jaundice)</p>
<p>Abdominal swelling causing a feeling of fullness</p>
<p>Esophageal Cancer</p>
<p>Esophageal cancer appears as a tumor, or an abnormal growth of cells in the esophagus. The esophagus is the food passageway that connects the throat to the stomach.</p>
<p>Esophageal cancer usually does not cause any symptoms until the cancer has advanced to a stage that is too late for effective treatment. The main symptom is difficulty in swallowing food. There is a frequent sensation of food getting stuck in the throat or chest.</p>
<p>Signs of advanced esophageal cancer include:</p>
<p>Pain when swallowing.</p>
<p>Pain in the throat or back, behind the breastbone or pain between the shoulder blades.</p>
<p>Decreased appetite and weight loss. </p>
<p>Hiccups with the feeling of food getting stuck in the throat or chest. </p>
<p>Vomiting and coughing up blood.</p>
<p>Aortic dissection</p>
<p>When the aorta, the major artery leading from the heart, tears, there can be sudden sharp pain in the spine between the shoulder blades. This is an obvious surgical emergency.</p>
