This article is about “Brain teasers ear”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “Brain teasers ear”:

Everyone knows that eating a healthy and well-balanced diet is necessary to give the body all of the nutrients that it needs in order to be at its peak condition. What they may not know is that exercise can be just as important in many ways to optimal health. Sure, you can eat the perfect amount of the healthiest foods, but if that is the only form of exercise that you get in a day, you are shortchanging your body and doing it a very serious disservice in the long run.

Exercise has been linked to better functioning of the heart, the brain and the digestive system, just to name a few, and also plays a major role in preventing or slowing the progression of a number of diseases and conditions, including Alzheimer’s Disease and cardiovascular disease.

Exercise boosts the immune system and can help to boost the metabolism as well. Lean muscle burns more fat per pound than, well, fat. (The body expends energy simply maintaining muscle, between 40-120 calories per day, depending on the size of the muscle. The same amount of fat only consumes 1-3 calories per day). The more muscle that you have, the more calories you burn each day and the healthier you will look and feel. Tightening and toning your core muscles, defined as those in your abdominal and back area, are especially important because it is where your balance comes from. Strong abdominal muscles protect the back by helping to make sure that your posture is straight and erect.

Other Ways that Exercise Can Help to Protect Good Health

A Japanese experiment has shown that exercise reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and may also help to prevent some of the brain fog that is seen in younger people. The study split groups of previously sedentary young adults into an exercising class and a not exercising class and then compared before and after MRIs. The findings showed that the group that were not exercising before or during the study had shrinking gray matter, while the exercising group did not have any adverse changes to their scans.

In addition to physical exercise, those who are at risk for Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias or have been diagnosed are encouraged to use mental workouts such as crossword puzzles and other brain teasers to keep the brain working as hard as it can for as long as possible. There are several handheld games that are perfect for keeping the brain young and vital.

Exercise can reduce the inflammatory response of the body. When the body is met with stressors, even in the form of bad food, it responds by releasing C-reactive protein, a blood marker that indicates inflammation and is linked to heart disease. The more stress that the body is under, for instance, from being overweight, exposed to greasy, fried foods and smoking, the more C-reactive protein will be released. Exercise can reduce this inflammatory response, as do better food choices, especially when it comes to fats. Good fats do not cause inflammation, but bad fats do.

Exercise has been shown to reduce breast cancer risk and can save your life if you do develop it. In a study of overweight women, those who started exercising for more than three hours each week were almost half as likely to die from breast cancer than those who exercised for less than half an hour per week.

For smokers who are trying to kick the habit, exercise may help them to fight cigarette cravings. In a study, researchers found that even regular smokers (defined as those who smoke four or more cigarettes per day) were less interested in images of other people smoking after fifteen minutes on an exercise bike when compared to when they did no exercise at all (Gelman 2010). Exercise may also help with food cravings as well. Women who went for a walk immediately after eating did not feel deprived, and were less likely to overeat during a meal.

Exercising is also beneficial for the entire family. Childhood obesity is a growing epidemic in this country, and teaching a love of good nutrition and exercise can never come too early. Five year olds who got at least fifty minutes of moderate exercise per day had less body fat at ages eight and eleven than those who got only ten minutes per day. Further studies show that obese children tend to come from obese families, especially in lower income or rural areas. These children are at risk for all of the same health risks that adults are and are also at risk for being socially ostracized because of their weight.

Women who not only exercised regularly during their pregnancy but made sure that their diet included a lot of veggies daily, had children who were less likely to develop Type I diabetes. They also experienced less pain and trauma during the birth of their baby and typically went home faster as well. Pregnant exercisers also typically have fewer problems with constipation, bloating and other discomforts that are common in pregnancy.

Exercise is also beneficial to women entering or completing menopause, especially for its role in preventing or slowing osteoporosis. Strength training and weight bearing exercise is especially good.

For men and women who have arthritis, the suggestion that they get out and exercise might seem like a bad idea; however, if they go to a pool and do exercises, they will get the same benefits without the stress and strain on their stiff and sore joints. In some areas, these classes are created especially for the arthritis sufferer and are done in a gently warmed pool for even more pain relief.

Exercise can be any movement, as long as you end up feeling a little tired, a little sweaty and your heart is pumping a little harder. Dancing, cleaning the house, chasing after a toddler or walking the dog are all exercises, and they all add up.

Donna, the Dog and Dance Class: A Case Study

Donna, age 62, has learned that she is at high risk for osteoporosis. Always a slender woman, she has let herself become rather inactive in recent years and has the appetite of a bird. Her doctor would actually like to see her eat more each day, and increasing both her protein and her calcium intake are her first main goals to work on. She takes up yoga in the mornings, greeting the day with sun salutations and feeling pretty good about it. She also starts volunteering at the local dog shelter, one block over from her house. One sunny morning, she walks over instead of driving around the block. That day she meets Beppy, a Jack Russell terrier with a mangled ear but an almost perpetual smile on his little doggy face. Almost on a whim, she signs the papers and she brings Beppy home.

Flash forward a month: now in addition to her morning yoga, done while her insane Jack Russell twirls and whirls in front of her, she walks the dog twice a day and goes to the gym to lift weights every other afternoon. She also takes a calcium supplement with her breakfast, and between meals, twice a day, she drinks a liquid protein supplement. It gives her 25 grams of protein per serving, plus the vitamins that she needs to stay healthy.

This article is about “Riddles listening exercises”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “Riddles listening exercises”:

Grammar is linear and spoken English is abstract. Latin grammar with its hundreds of 1 + 1 = 2 rules is too concrete to adequately characterize English writing, much less speaking. “Adjectives describe nouns” is a good example of an overplayed grammar rule that simply does not ring true.

Merry, Happy, Joyous, Cheerful, Glad… are all synonyms, so they mean the same thing, and they are all adjectives, which means they describe nouns. But only one of them describes the noun Christmas or the noun Birthday. Happy Christmas and Merry Birthday do not exist in North American English, even though the grammar is perfect.

English is put together differently from Latin.

To further compound the issue, English has a habit of using the same word in many different roles. “Match” can be a noun describing something that lights a candle, a verbas instructions in a classroom exercise, or an adjective to describe another noun as in “match point” or “The couple is a good match.” In English it is the context or surrounding words that give individual words their meaning.

The Impact of Grammar on ESL – Ivan’s Story

Ivan is an engineer from Russia. He is very well educated and has a fine mind. There is not much about ‘English’ grammar that Ivan has not been taught. Truth be told, he knows more grammar than most English teachers, but he is reluctant to speak, even when he knows the answer. Although he was the best candidate for promotion in his job, Ivan kept getting passed over because of his spoken English. His company paid his tuition for a college speaking course as a last-ditch attempt to get the best value out of this otherwise fantastic employee.

The course taught the differences between written and spoken English and the mechanics of how speaking English really works. Ivan learned about the limitations of grammar and abstract nature of language. When he learned that words have another level of meaning different from their literal interpretation, Ivan began to talk.

For several weeks Ivan took notes and studied the speaking concepts he had never heard of before. On the fourth week, Ivan waited until all the other students had left then he quietly asked me, “Teacher, what means ‘way’?”

“I’m not sure Ivan.” Mentally I scrambled to assemble all the possible versions of way, weigh, whey that I could think of. “Do remember the sentence?”

He replied, “My co-worker says it, ‘Way cool’ with no sentence.”

“Oh, in that case ‘way’ means very and ‘cool’ means wonderful. Good listening!”

In that moment, something clicked for Ivan. He no longer struggled to make sense of every word he heard and he tried other ways to glean meaning from conversations. He became more confident and open is his ability to express himself. As it turns out, he has quite a dry sense of humor. Sometime after the course ended, I learned through LinkedIn that he was promoted to Project Manager.

A Lesson in Collocations

English is not driven by grammar. It is made up of thousands of little word groups called collocations that go together for no reason and create images or mental pictures.

Merry only collocates with a few other words. Merry Christmas, merry widow, eat drink and be merry, merry-go-round, the more the merrier and perhaps a few more. The point is the groups of words that naturally include merry are finite. There is no merry wall or merry floor. There is no merry widower. Playing on these fixed groups of words is what defines humor and wit in this language. Before students can express themselves fully, they have to learn how the language works, and English works with collocations.

Relying too heavily on grammar renders students’ work wooden and unnatural.

Last Night

Last night my husband and I ate dinner at home. I cooked chicken and my husband washed the dishes. After dinner we drank coffee and watched TV.

If my student produced a grammatically perfect paragraph like that, I would be ecstatic. However, no native speaker would use those words, because grammar is not what makes the English language tick. Collocations do.

Last Night

Last night my husband and I had dinner at home. I made chicken and my husband did the dishes. After dinner we had coffee in front of the TV.

English is Idiomatic

Blue moon means rarely; touch and go suggests urgency; a stitch in time implies prevention and so on. Such is the abstract nature of English. No one is born with any notion this leap of logic takes place. Everyone has to learn it.

How do Native Speakers Learn?

An insightful primary school teacher in the USA conducted a revealing experiment with her Grade One students. Using a list of common sayings, including: Strike while the iron is hot, No news is good news, A penny saved is a penny earned, the teacher gave her class the first half of the expressions and let her students finish them. The children’s answers were delightfully literal. Strike while the… bug is close. No news is… impossible. A penny saved is… not much, indicating English-speaking children do not develop abstract language facility until sometime after the age of six.

Native speakers begin to broaden their agility with language in elementary school with corny jokes and riddles. What’s black and white and read all over? Time honored riddles hold the key to a new world of intellectual flexibility. Sleeping Beauty gave us Hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to work we go; The Wizard of Oz gave us This isn’t Kansas anymore; and Gone with the Wind gave us Frankly, my dear. These small fixed groups of words are an integral part of North American culture and form the basis of the English language. Collocations are how native speakers communicate with each other and know instinctively that “way cool” has nothing to do with direction or weather.

Newcomers need to experience a similar process to achieve fluency in English. Read children’s stories to students and teach them to listen for groups of words that make pictures. Once upon a time, fall in love and happily ever after are the glue to this language and this culture. Learners need to be taught about the “other level.” Once students know it is there, they can find it on their own. Then our job is done.

Summary

Be careful of leaning too hard on Latin grammar. What students gain from learning to write, they lose from speaking as they are so terrified of making grammar mistakes that they do not talk at all. Grammar is an artificial set of rules imposed on English to facilitate very basic written language. Students need to understand the differences between written and spoken English and the power of small fixed groups of words to convey images.

In class they struggle to perfect “Good morning. How are you?” and in the hall they hear, “Yo. Whasup?” We are indeed not in Kansas anymore. Teaching grammar is the best way I can think of to prevent students from speaking English.

And there it is in white and black.

This article is about “Riddles and nervous system”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “Riddles and nervous system”:

A child who has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder experiences more than just uncontrollable behavior and inattention. Many children with ADHD also suffer from a constellation of other health problems like anxiety, motor coordination difficulties, allergies, and learning disorders. Unfortunately, these underlying health issues never get treated, because most children take ADHD medications to manage the disorder. Although stimulant medication can temporarily correct the neurotransmitter imbalance that causes the symptoms, this approach only corrects one piece of the ADHD puzzle. For many children, taking medication just leads to more puzzling questions and riddles rather than answers and results.

There are many medical treatment options for ADHD that do not involve the use of stimulant drugs. One such treatment was developed by psychiatrist Harold Levinson MD to address the symptoms of ADHD and its underlying disorders. The treatment is called cerebellar therapies, and is based on the fact that 95% of children and adults with ADHD experience inner-ear/cerebellar-vestibular (CV) dysfunctions. After working with over 35,000 patients, Dr. Levinson discovered that problems with the CV often account for disorders like dyslexia, mood disorders, and ADHD.

As a matter of fact, Dr. Levinson believes that the CV theory is the only one that can explain all the behavioral symptoms of ADHD and its co-morbid conditions.

How exactly can dysfunctions in the inner ear/CV explain the diagnostic criteria and other symptoms of ADHD? Dr. Levinson lists the mechanisms of the inner ear/CV to show us how they relate to our physical and mental well-being.

? Think of the inner ear as a computer system with a three-dimensional compass. Our inner ear guides our eyes, feet, hands, and movements as we move in the physical world. The inner ear also helps us navigate, by telling us about spatial relationships like up and down, left and right. Poor balance and coordination due to inner-ear dysfunction can explain vertigo, fear of falling, or fear of riding in elevators and escalators.

? The inner ear works as a filter that blocks out irrelevant sensory-motor background and stimuli. It tfine-tunes our motor responses based on this information. Problems in the inner ear can explain why children with ADHD are easily distractible and cannot focus.

? The inner ear is closely connected to the centers of the nervous system that modulate mood and motor energy, which can account for mood swings and hyperactivity.

By examining how problems in specific CV-related components trigger the symptoms of ADHD, it is possible to use cerebellar therapies to achieve a 75-80% success rate in overcoming the symptoms for good.

The first step of the treatment is a thorough medical exam that checks for problems in the inner ear/CV. After examining the test results together with the child’s set of symptoms and problems, the practitioner will design a treatment plan to correct any dysfunction. Although Dr. Levinson did use some medication to treat his patients, these inner-ear/CV dysfunctions can also be treated using non-medical procedures like neurofeedback.

If you’d like to find out how treating inner ear/CV dysfunctions can help your child, consult a chiropractor trained in functional neurology. You can find a list of certified chiropractors at http://www.acnb.org.

This article is about “Brain teasers drawings”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “Brain teasers drawings”:

If an artist is 4 or 104, here are our top seven tips for rose drawings to make learning faster, easier, more efficient, and fun.

1. Pick a Rose. It could be a snapshot or from the garden. Use it as a reference to train your eye to see. This helps you stay focused on the activity without being distracted.

2. Fast Idea Sketches. Do them in pencil on any scrap of paper like the inside of an envelope. Keep your mind relaxed. Look at the rose from all angles: top, bottom, upside down, quarter turn to the left or right, sideways. Visualizing turning the rose image in your mind is like doing a jigsaw puzzle. Sketch loosely and freely to record your impressions quickly.

3. Quantity Not Quality. Small, quick rose pencil sketches solve the problem of what to draw before starting your rose drawings. This exercise also helps improve reading from left to right. Doing lots of fast sketches is like taking notes while watching a video.

4. Plunk Down Your Sketches. Lay them out on a table or the floor in the same order you sketched them. Step back and look. A few will catch your eye. Then pick out the one that interests you the most. You will be able to see the differences in size, shape, direction and distance in your head. This helps you organize the upcoming rose drawings and see these things in a sequence.

5. Keep the Original Fast Sketch Intact. Don’t work on the one you picked anymore! If you do it will bog down and lose its essence. You cannot replace this spirit no matter how much fine work you waste on it. This helps you plan, reason and make decisions about the rose drawings you will create.

6. Find the Most Interesting Bit. Lay two “L” shaped strips of white paper over the fast sketch so it forms a type of frame with an opening the same size as the drawing paper you plan to use. Move the frame around until you find the most interesting area of your rose sketch.

7. Now You Are Ready. Start drawing on the paper or canvas of your choice. Learning to loosen the free flow of ideas is the beginning of all art. Working this way helps you develop style and self-confidence.

Are you looking for some ideas for good scavenger hunts at home? Well, around our house, there’s nothing like a good riddle scavenger hunt to break the monotony of a rainy, dreary day.

First of all, you’re going to want to get some note cards; sure, you can always open an application on your computer like Notepad or Word, but you’re probably not going to want to keep returning to the computer after every realized clue. You’re going to want to be more mobile than that!

Start writing down clues to the items on your list. But use riddles. If you’re stumped and are looking for a few riddle ideas, look no further.

One example of a riddle clue that I’ve used in the past is this: Assume the item in question is a couch. Here is the riddle: “Yes, you sit or lie down on me, but you are no slouch. You can even take off my cushions; goodness me, I’m a _____!”

See how it rhymes? Your riddles don’t have to rhyme to be good, but it can be more fun – especially for kids – if it DOES rhyme.

Maybe another clue you’ll want to use is this: “Lie down on me with your sleepy head. Put the covers on and relax on your _____!”

Bed, right? Right!

These are just a couple examples, and you may not even like them! But you get the idea: put a few riddles on the cards the next time you host a scavenger hunt, and the kids will be coming back for more!

Make You Own Scavenger Hunts!

This article is about “Nothing EXCELLENT brain teaser”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “Nothing EXCELLENT brain teaser”:

One of the most popular board games is chess. Lots of parents like it for the opportunities it provides to their child. The game has a powerful strategy and needs lots of thinking and diligence. All this will be very helpful to the child in future studying and making career choices.

As you know, chess is played on the checker board with 64 black and white squares by two players. The goal of the game is to checkmate the king of your opponent. The game itself has an Indian origin and now it is popular around the World. Besides being just a usual board game, chess is a sport and there are many famous sportsmen in this field. For example, Garry Kasparov is one of these people. Chess tournaments are held by a lot of schools and universities; it is played at home and in clubs. In my mind, playing chess is the best way to teach your kids to see the consequences of their own movements and to think of their opponent’s strategy.

Now there are plenty of strategies to win the game but their main principles are alike. At first, you should keep in mind the value of all pieces (e.g. 1 point for a pawn and 9 for a queen) and always defend your pieces. We are not talking about sacrificing any to checkmate your opponent. This strategy is known as gambit and it is not very popular. Certainly, you should have enough practice to see all the possible consequences of gambit that exist for you and your opponent. Think thoroughly about all of the possible movements and never underestimate your opponent! Learning these principles and using them in real life will certainly help your child obtain success as nothing helps them develop logical thinking as well as a game of chess does.

Another important part of strategy in the game is controlling the centre and being able to take initiative. You must not be afraid to risk or make threads to your opponent. You just have to think through all of the consequences and if your profit is big and the worst consequences won’t lead to complete failure, you have to try risky tactics. Therefore practicing chess adds confidence to your decision-making and trains players’ careful thinking.

Nowadays you don’t even have to find an opponent to play with you – with the development of modern computer technologies you can freely play computer chess or online chess. It’s a very convenient way to have fun and play chess when you’re alone, or in case if your only child wants to play chess but you’re busy. Of course, playing chess with mom is much more interesting and attractive than playing the same thing game on a computer. Spending time together with your son or daughter will add enjoyment to your day and will make your relations closer. The only thing you need to do is to devote some time to your kid and his or her needs.

Chess is one game which can easily be classified as a brain teaser. It requires thinking, planning, looking at the future and working on a strategy. It also involves making and adjusting moves according to the opponent. A real brain developer which has a rich historical past and a fabulous future ahead. No matter how successful the modern video games become, chess was and is still the real brain teaser.

This article is about “Brain teaser drawings”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “Brain teaser drawings”:

The first thing to consider for any scavenger hunt is the age of the participants. Children are smart and can be demanding sometimes, so tasks, hints and other assignments need to be challenging, fun, exciting and entertaining for their age group. However, if puzzles and riddles are too difficult, kids might give up when they get stymied or confused while doing their assignments. So it is important to balance challenge and level of difficulty.

For pre school children, pictograms, pictures, drawings or tasks that can easily be done can be included as hints or assignments that they have to be do in order to proceed to the next item on the list. An easy example would be to draw or take a photograph a picture of a toy hidden inside a toy box or any where inside or outside the home. The toy would have a simple task like sing a song or hop like a bunny taped to it. Once the task is finished the moderator can now give the next clue that would lead your player to another item on the list. Another easy idea would be to scatter 100 gold chocolate coins around the house for the kids to look for. Once all 100 are collected you can give the kids the chocolate gold coins as prize.

If your guests are teen or pre teen other inventive ways to solve riddles and do tasks should be employed to lead them to the items on the scavenger hunt. A cryptogram is a good brain teaser for the kids to do. Instead of writing your clues the normal way make a cryptogram of the items on the list. Provide the kids with the key to the puzzle or have them do a task like an apple eating contest and give the key only after they have completed the task. An alternative to the cryptogram is a word search. Make a word search puzzle of all the items included in the scavenger hunt. Have your teams or players encircle the words of the items for the hunt. The things that can be included in the scavenger hunt will also have to be age appropriate for the players involved. A three year old for example might not know what a Frisbee or Maple tree leaf is.

If you are still having a hard time coming up with the clues, try doing the scavenger hunt backwards. Start with the last item on the list and work your way down. You can also fine tune your scavenger hunt by playing the game yourself. The trial and error method is a good way to work out the bugs and kinks that might be there. All items on the list do not have to be found. Younger children may not want to continue with the hunt or have a hard time finishing the game, so in case of a tie, come up with a back-up clue or item that can easily be found.
