Neck injuries from 12 mph crash possible rearend

This article is about “Neck injuries from 12 mph crash possible rearend”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “Neck injuries from 12 mph crash possible rearend”:

Upwards of 3 million car crashes occur each year in the US. 93% of those are said to be due to driver error.[1] Many crashes are low speed and result in no apparent injury, but a significant number of crashes cause serious injury and long term consequences for the victims. Up to 40% of whiplash injuries become chronic painful conditions. [2]

In an effort to reduce the number of whiplash injuries due to car crashes, I am sharing information on how to avoid suffering a whiplash injury. You have very little control over someone crashing into you. And you have very little control once you are hit over how badly you will be injured. So the premise of this article is to provide practical tips on how to minimize injuries when you are faced with the inevitable collision.

Whiplash injuries result from shearing forces in the neck due to the vehicle being propelled forward while the head and neck stay momentarily stationary. The neck takes on an “S’ shaped deformation resulting in damage to the muscles, ligaments, discs, nerves and joints. Injuries may occur in very low speed collisions of only 2.5 mph. By the time you are conscious of the impact, your neck is damaged.[3] [4] [5]

In our previous article you learned the one thing to do to prevent whiplash is to adjust your head restraint properly. [6] [7]

This article will address a few of the many factors researchers have discovered aggravate or intensify whiplash injuries. These factors relate to what you can do to prevent or minimize an injury when faced with a certain collision.

Factor 1: Awareness

Occupants who have no prior knowledge to a crash are 15 times more likely to suffer injury. [8] With this in mind it makes sense to avoid an injury you need to be aware of your surroundings and watch your rear view mirror when stopping at lights or in stop and go traffic on the freeway. Be aware of tires squeals and sounds of collisions behind. If you see a collision coming you will know what to do with the next tip.

Factor 2: Bracing

According to researcher Teasell injury is greater “when the impact is unexpected and the victims is unable to brace.”[8] Anyone who watched Star Trek or old WWII submarine movies knows this. When faced with a crash “go to battle stations.” The command “brace! brace! brace!” should come to mind. The second you notice another vehicle may strike you, brace for the crash by leaning your head against the head restraint and your body back against the seat. If you’re the driver put both hands on the steering wheel and stretch your arms out to push yourself back into the seat. Firmly plant your foot on the brake and the other foot on the floor. By bracing like this your entire body becomes rigid and is essentially part of the car. Bracing like this will prevent injuries in just about any low speed collision and will minimize damage in higher speed collisions. If you have passengers command everyone to “lean back, hold on!”

Factor 3: Body position

Injuries are magnified by your head, body or the vehicle itself being turned at an angle.[9] For maximum protection you want both sides of your muscles and ligaments to bear the load of a collision. If your head is turned, only one side is working and you suffer greater damage. So, when the collision is imminent and you are bracing look straight ahead. Do not look into the rear view mirror. Head tilt up, down or to the side will make neck damage worse. Look straight ahead and brace for it.

When stopping at an intersection to make a left turn or in the right lane to make a right turn, keep your car headed straight ahead until you are ready to turn and move through the intersection. If you “cheat” and angle your car while waiting in the intersection you are opening yourself up to greater injury by being turned at impact. Worse, in the case of making a left turn, if your wheels re turned and you unexpectedly get hit from behind, your vehicle is likely to get pushed wherever your wheels are aimed, which means right into oncoming traffic! Keep the wheels straight until its time to go.

Factor 4: Expect a second impact

Once the initial collision occurs and you are properly braced you need to ride out the collision, keeping your foot hard on the brakes until you come to a stop. But you’re not out of the woods yet. Be prepared to hit the vehicle in front of you! Keep bracing. If you miss the vehicle in front, do not let up yet. Keep bracing for several more seconds until you are absolutely sure there are not going to be more collisions behind you. This is especially important on freeways where there tends to be multiple car collisions. Let your guard down too soon and even though you avoided injuries from the first impact, a second one may hit the vehicle that hit you and bang, you’re unprepared and injured.

Millions of collisions occur every year leaving thousands to suffer long term pain and disability. Most of the time it is out of your control whether or not you get hit, but you can take steps to prevent or minimize injuries. Learn these tips and teach them to your family and friends so that they too will avoid becoming a crash statistic.

In the next article of this series, I will explain what you MUST do immediately after the collision…

Minimum pressure human injuries

This article is about “Minimum pressure human injuries”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “Minimum pressure human injuries”:

1. MANAGE STRESS: Although stress is a normal part of the human experience, it is how we manage stress. Stress and anxiety cause chemicals to be released into your body, raise your blood pressure and cause a reduction of blood flow to your heart. Most people in Stage 1 or 2 of adrenal fatigue typically have elevated blood pressure secondary to increased cortisol and adrenaline. Those with hypertension should always rule out heavy metal toxicity. LDL cholesterol levels may increase from excessive stress too.

Winning Formulas to Relax and Manage Stress (practice some form of stress reduction EVERY day):

- Prioritize – write down your priorities

- Breathe – Full, deep belly breathing. Start with a minimum of two minutes every day and gradually increase to ten minutes daily.

- Yoga

- Meditation

- Massage

- Listen to calm music

- Warm, aromatherapy bath with Epsom salts

- Change how you view situations

- Surround yourself with like-minded people and friends. You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Be aware and eliminate unhealthy, stressful social behaviors including arguments, drama, drinking, inactivity, unhealthy eating and over-eating.

o University of Utah psychologist found that women in strained marriages are more likely to feel depressed and suffer high blood pressure, obesity and other signs of “metabolic syndrome,” a group of risk factors for heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

- Dissolve unhealthy lose-win relationships and focus on attracting only win-win relationships.

2. ELIMINATE ALL PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED OILS (TRANS FATS): Partially hydrogenated oils are found in thousands of processed foods (breakfast cereals, cookies, chips, fried foods, packaged foods, all CRAP food). Trans fats are proven to cause heart disease. Restaurant food, especially from fast food chains, often serve food loaded with trans fats.

Consequences of a diet high in trans fats include:

- Inflammation

- Immune dysfunction

- Decreased testosterone

- Arthritis

- Cancer

- Decreased IQ – learning disabilities. American IQ has dropped 20 points in the past 20 years.

- Diabetes

- Elevated blood pressure

- Free radical production

- Heart Disease

- Interferes with neurological & visual development of fetus

- Liver damage

- Obesity

- Osteoporosis

- Type II diabetes

3. LOSE BODY FAT: This is achieved with the “4 Powers” – Nutrition, Lifestyle, Exercise and Supplements. Excess body fat stresses your joints and organs, including your heart. Decreasing body fat in a healthy, slow, steady manner will improve your health, lower your cholesterol and reduce blood pressure and your risk of diabetes.

4. CONSISTENT EXERCISE: This isn’t breaking news. Exercise will help you reduce stress, decrease body fat, increase your metabolism and lower your risk of diabetes. Adequate, consistent exercise will lower your blood pressure and increase the “good” HDL cholesterol and lower your triglycerides. Take a brisk 30 minute walk every day. There is evidence that resistance training results in a more favorable balance in myocardial oxygen supply and demand than aerobic exercise due to the lower heart rate and higher myocardial perfusion pressure. Moderate intensity strength training can control or prevent hypertension. Circulation 116: 572-584, 2007.

5. ELIMINATE HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP: HFCS is the number one source of calories for most Americans and causes obesity. You’ll find high-fructose corn syrup in processed crap food, sodas, syrup that goes into your Latte from Starbucks, etc. HFCS is extremely toxic to your liver, increases inflammation, oxidative stress and creates an aggressive insulin response.

6. SUPPLEMENTS FOR HYPERTENSION: Omega-3 fish oils, magnesium, vitamin D, Biotics VasculoSirt, Green Tea Extract, Hawthorne Extract, Digestive enzymes, Probiotics, Ginger

- Ginger has blood pressure-lowering effects that can protect against the chronic brain injury caused by hypertension. Vascul Pharmacol, 2005 Oct;43(4):234-41

- Diuretics cause potassium levels to drop increasing the risk of hypokalemia.

- Beta-blockers reduce heart rate and cardiac output potentially reducing exercise performance.

- With calcium channel blockers systolic and diastolic blood pressures are reduced during exercise which may result in light headedness and peripheral edema post-exercise.

- Additional side effects from hypertension drugs include: dizziness, increased risk of breast cancer, memory loss, nausea, asthma-like symptoms, joint pain and impotence in men.

SUPPLEMENTS FOR ELEVATED CHOLESTEROL: Omega-3 fish oils, CoQ10, tocotrienols, pantethine, vitamin D, Biotics LipidSirt, Green Tea Extract

According to a recent study, men with higher vitamin D levels had a 59% reduction in heart attacks. So if vitamin D’s only benefit was to reduce coronary heart attack rates by 59%, the net savings (after deducting the cost of the vitamin D) if every American supplemented properly would be around $85 billion each year. Arch Intern Med. 2008 Jun 9; 168(11):1174-80

7. FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE increase potassium rich foods such as vegetables, fruits, legumes and fish. Most Americans consume only half the recommended daily intake of potassium and twice the suggested limit for sodium! Potassium can influence BP levels by increasing sodium excretion from the body by stimulating the blood vessels to dilate, opening potassium channels.

FOR ELEVATED CHOLESTEROL increase consumption of plant sterols, sometimes called phytosterols. Plant sterols are the healthy compounds that occur naturally in a variety of plant foods such as fruits and vegetables, seeds and nuts. These foods are recognized for their proven role in lowering LDL “bad” cholesterol levels.

FOR BOTH, ELEVATED CHOLESTEROL and HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE include beta-glucan for fiber, a natural occurring soluble fiber found in whole-grain, oat based cereals. Beta-glucan has LDL cholesterol lowering benefits and substantial decreases in blood pressure.

8. INCREASE CONSUMPTION OF SMART FATS and ORGANIC PROTEIN:

FATS – avocado, wild fish, raw (unsalted) organic nuts and seeds, coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil

PROTEINS – Grass-fed beef and buffalo, cage-free poultry, wild salmon, fish, eggs, quality whey protein isolate or concentrate.

9. DECREASE ALCOHOL and CAFFEINE CONSUMPTION and INCREASE WATER INTAKE: Alcohol and caffeine cause adrenaline rushes that make blood pressure soar. Alcohol, sugar and processed, refined grains also lead to insulin resistance, hypertension and elevated cholesterol. Alcohol can affect your nerves and how your liver processes fat in the blood. Alcohol and caffeine disrupt blood glucose levels. Not only is alcohol hard on the body, just one drink can cause cellular death in several organs such as the brain.

Take your bodyweight and multiply by.7 – this will give you the number of ounces you should be drinking daily. Add a pinch of Celtic sea salt and lemon to your water.

10. ELIMINATE SUGAR, REFINED CARBOHYDRATES and ALL ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS: Phenylalanine, especially found in Nutra-Sweet and OTC antihistamines, can aggravate high blood pressure.

Sugar is more addictive than cocaine! Sugar has a profound influence on your brain function and your psychological function. When you consume excess amounts of sugar, your body releases excess amounts of insulin, which in turn causes a drop in your blood sugar, also known as hypoglycemia. Sugar and refined carbohydrates wreak havoc on blood glucose levels.

In addition, sugar is pro-flammatory and damages skin collagen and promotes again and wrinkles, increases your appetite, depletes your body of B vitamins, causes joint degeneration, ADHD and other behavior disorders, stimulates cholesterol synthesis and weight gain. This is just a small list of sugars’ toxic side effects.

Hypertension and elevated cholesterol (as well as diabetes) can be managed WITHOUT pharmaceutical drugs. HOW? Healthy lifestyle habits, stress management, supplements, diet and nutrition, a proper exercise program and fat loss.

Chondromalacia weak calves

This article is about “Chondromalacia weak calves”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “Chondromalacia weak calves”:

When I got back from Italy in 1998 I dedicated all my time to giving and helping family and friends. This was because I felt I owed them since I spent so much time away from home pursuing every professional volleyball opportunity that was offered to me.

At the beginning of the summer of 2006 I went to get an MRI on BOTH of my knees. What an experience. Pretty interesting.

You are laid on a cold slab and slowly rolled into this huge round incubator tube like apparatus. You are given ear plugs because it makes a lot of noise while you are inside. Before I even got the results of my MRI…my doctor sent me a referral to an Orthopedic Surgeon. At this point I KNEW I had my work cut out for me. The results on my Left knee were as follows:

1. a tear of the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus,

2. patellar chondromalacia (how can I have this if I cant pronounce it!),

3. a small Baker’s cyst

4. a Focal subchondral sclerosis in the anterior aspect of the lateral femoral condyle (what! english please) and

5. Joint effusion

The report also included some additional details as follows: Large joint effusion is noted, there is a tear of the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus while my medial meniscus is intact. Geez, something is intact! Apparently the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments are intact but patella chondromalacia is seen. Otherwise, patella and patellar extensor mechanism are intact but additionally, there is a focal subchondral degenerative change noted in the anterior aspect of the lateral femoral condyle. No seriously that sounds so impressive!

The results for my right knee were even more fun: Let’s start with

1. Severe degenerative changes,

2. Anterior Cruciate ligament tear (really, I never knew!),

3. Body of the lateral meniscus tear,

4. Loose body posterior to the lateral femoral condyle (I think there is something floating around in there somewhere.),

5. Joint effusion

Of course this wasn’t all, there were additional details: Sagittal, coronal and axial images demonstrate severe degenerative changes involving both medial and lateral compartments of the knee with extensive osteophyte formation and chondrmalacia as well as subchondral sclerosis. (Okay what the…?)The sagittal images demonstrate a COMPLETE anterior cruciate ligament TEAR. (Wow, seriously I never knew..). There is also a focal tear in the body of the lateral meniscus. The medial meniscus is intact. (Oh thank God!) Patellofemoral degenerative changes and patellar chondromalacia are seen. A loose body (again) is noted immediately posterior to the lateral femoral condyle. (In other words there’s a piece of bone or something floating around in my other knee!) This report ended with the following. “Thank you for referring this patient to us!” (funny. very funny.)

So when I first opened the envelope and read the results I just started laughing. I couldn’t stop laughing. Because two days before I did my leg workout in the gym which consisted of 140 lunges. That’s 10 in one direction 10 in the opposite direction 7 times…no breaks. Followed by Squats. I did my usual 2 hour leg workout which also included Clean Pulls, Good Mornings, two different Leg Curl Exercises, Toe Raises and Cardio on the elliptical Machine.

I’m not exactly sure what I was laughing at. I didn’t even know what to think or where to begin… I’ve always practiced and pushed myself very hard. I’ve never really babied myself. Basically I thought that if I could walk then I could run. And if I couldn’t run then I could ride a bike. I ALWAYS found a way to overcome the obstacle. So I think I may have been laughing at everything I had done in these past 17 years.

Nothing ever stopped me…and that was funny.

I knew that I had my only volleyball knee injury incident a long time ago. Major League Volleyball was the first Women’s Professional Indoor Volleyball League in the United States. I was the first round draft pick chosen by one of the greatest volleyball player’s ever… Mary Jo Peppler to play for the New York Liberties. While playing in Dallas I went up to spike and when I came down and my toes barely touched the floor I felt something wasn’t right so I just let my body fall instead of just trying to land on my two feet. As a result I tore one third of my ACL. If I tried to land on my feet I would’ve completely torn my ACL then.

I was given two possibilities. Either I could have reconstructive surgery OR I could basically live in the gym for the rest of my life. I chose to live in the gym after a period of rehabilitation and the dreaded KNEE brace. So I knew that I was going to have to weight train for the rest of my life to keep strong the muscles surrounding the ACL -the back of the knee, my calf, my thighs and my butt muscles all would need to stay strong in order to compensate for the weak two-thirds of the ACL I still had. That was 17 years ago!

Somewhere between THEN and now I completely TORE my Anterior Cruciate Ligament…and didn’t even know it! Life is hilarious!

I forgot to mention that due to my ACL injury I missed the last three Major League Volleyball games of the season. But because of the work ethic I adopted and applied BEFORE my injury I was still named to the First Team All Pro Team as well as named Best Left Side Outside Hitter for the first Major League Volleyballl season.

If there was a lesson that I could pass on I’d say “When you get a chance to practice and work hard…Do it as if you will never have another chance to do it again. Give 110% to each rep, to each set…make each one count because you never know what the outcome will be and you never know if you will be given a chance to do it again.

How much damage can hitting pedestrian cause

This article is about “How much damage can hitting pedestrian cause”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “How much damage can hitting pedestrian cause”:

You may think that as a motorcyclist, you are the most vulnerable person in the road. The truth is that pedestrians have less protection than you, and do not have a motor to avoid accidents. Anyone crossing the road is at the mercy of the drivers around them. This sounds scary, but motorcycle – pedestrian accidents happen every day.

Anywhere over 30 miles an hour and the pedestrian has a good chance of dying. Fatal or serious motorcycle-pedestrian accidents occur several hundred times a day. If you do get involved in a Denver motorcycle accident stay calm and know what to do.

If you have hit a person on the street, stay calm and see if they need medical attention. Your first responsibility is the care of the person you injured. If you have injured someone, call an ambulance immediately. You will be upset, but do not try to administer any medical treatment unless you are trained in it.

You will also want to get legal help. Call a Denver motorcycle lawyer who specializes in this kind of situation. You will also need to contact the police and both of your insurance companies. Obviously if the pedestrian is seriously injured, you can get thins information later. A Denver personal injury attorney will always advise you to speak as little as possible to authorities until you have a lawyer and know your rights.

If you could be facing criminal charges, say from drinking alcohol, you will want to contact a criminal defense attorney because you might be arrested. This means you will be tried under criminal law. You do not have to answer any questions, but if you do, make sure you are truthful. Do not speak to the pedestrian, their insurance company, or lawyer any more than you have to. Making statements that seem nice at the time could lead to a personal injury lawsuit.

If the case does go to court, then they will try to establish fault. Often the first official opinion on the matter comes from the first officer on the scene. The officer may interview witnesses and record his opinion, or request that the motorcycle accident be investigated later. This report is often used by the court or insurance companies, however the insurance company is not required to agree with the officer.

Negligence law often decides these cases. The driver, pedestrian or both parties could have been negligent. If a party was behaving recklessly or breaking a law while the accident occurred, then they are probably at fault according to law. The injured party may be covered under workers compensation, personal health, or motorcycle insurance policies. Because insurance policies and state laws are different, it is best to consult with an attorney when trying to deal with insurance or the authorities.

All motorcycle drivers are required to carry injury liability insurance if they travel on public roads. The injured party will have to file a claim with the insurance company, although the recovery of damages may depend on fault. Some states have no fault rules, where insurance is required to pay regardless of fault in the case of personal injuries. The motorcycle rider’s insurance may have to pay for injuries even if the pedestrian was clearly at fault.

Hit from behind who at 20mph whiplash

This article is about “Hit from behind who at 20mph whiplash”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “Hit from behind who at 20mph whiplash”:

Thousands of automobile collisions occur everyday. And every day thousands are injured. Researchers note that the majority of accident injury claims occur at relatively low speeds of about 12 mph.

This causes tremendous disputes between injured parties and the insurance companies that are responsible for compensating them fro their injuries. To insurers, there really is no speed at which they want to admit and injury could occur. For economic reasons they try to dismiss whiplash in its entirety as if it doesn’t exist.

Thanks to recent irrefutable research studies proving the existence and exact mechanism of whiplash injuries, insurers are hard pressed to try the “whiplash is a hoax” defense nearly as much as in the past.

A more recent tactic is to claim the speed of the collision is too low to cause injury. The defense often relies on their insured’s reports of how fast they were going when they ran into the back of the other party-obviously biased data. Other times photographs of the vehicle damage is used to show a low speed. Often, the photographs are shown to an Accident Reconstructionist who by merely looking at photographic damage renders an opinion on how fast the vehicles were traveling. They will even go so far to make statements such as “the evidence suggests there was insufficient force to cause human bodily injury…” This would be laughable if it didn’t cause so many problems for injured victims.

Here are but a few facts concerning motor vehicle injuries and their relationship to speed with supporting scientific evidence.

Three different studies (Panjabi, Panjabi and Cholewicki and Kaneoka) proved the mechanism by which the neck is injured by a rear impact force. [1], [2], [3] The studies involved simulating a rear impact collision ot live human test subjects and recording the results with cineradiography (high speed motion x-rays). The researchers found that the neck was injured by deforming into an “S- shaped” configuration. All three of these studies found that this physical event occurred at speeds as low as 2.5 mph.

The radiographically proven human threshold for injury in a rear impact collision therefore is 2.5 mph. Other authors have disputed these figures and some insurance company sponsored studies have found the threshold to be closer to 5 mph.

For the sake of argument, let’s stipulate that the 5 mph threshold is correct. It still means that a collision of only 5 mph can cause damage to the neck.

Freeman et. al. in Spine, Vol. 23, Number 9, 1998, p. 1046 shows the damage thresholds for many cars. This is the minimum speed required to cause the car to show visible signs of damage. The smallest, lightest vehicle listed was the 1980 Toyota Tercel, which required a collision of 8.1 mph to become damaged. On the other end of the spectrum was the 1989 Chevrolet Citation, which required 12.7 mph. A Ford F-250 pick up required 11.7 mph.

Cars built today are equipped with rear bumpers designed not to show any damage below 5 mph. In an attempt to reduce repair costs shouldered by insurance companies, crash standards were adopted to mandate rear bumpers must withstand a 5 mph collision into a fixed barrier (wall, pole, etc) without any visible evidence of damage. It should be noted that this standard involves testing of “vehicle to barrier” crashes not “vehicle to vehicle” testing.

In “vehicle to vehicle” crashes where the bumpers line up well, it takes considerably more force to cause visible bumper damage than a 5 mph collision. Some tests have shown that cars could be crashed repeatedly at 20 mph and not show outer damage. In a “vehicle to vehicle” crash it is estimated that the minimum speed to cause visible damage is approximately 15 mph.

Another consideration is that while a bumper may look undamaged from the outside after a collision, inside under the skin, the foam or plastic may be crushed or cracked. This is not seen from the outside, so photographs would make it appear as if no damage was sustained. Still further, the bumper may appear intact, but on unibody vehicles, the unibody may be bent or deformed by a collision. This may not be apparent and some auto repair facilities may miss it.

So what does this mean? It means that if you are rear-ended and your bumper is cracked, dented, or misplaced at all, your collision involved speeds in excess of 15 mph. That’s 3 times the human threshold for injury if we use the 5 mph figure. In reality, the proven threshold is only 2.5 mph, so a collision of 15 mph is 6 times the threshold for injury.

Now let’s say your vehicle sustained no visible damage, but your neck hurts after the collision. Does that mean you weren’t really injured? No. It means that the vehicle’s threshold for damage was not exceeded. The impact could have been 10 mph. Too low for bumper damage, but still 4 times the threshold for human injury.

In a low speed collision, the kinetic forces that are transferred from the other vehicle into your vehicle are not dampened or bled off by your bumper. Instead, the force is transmitted through the vehicle, into your seat and to your neck resulting in injury. If your body or neck are jolted or jerked by the impact, an injury could occur.

Another aspect to consider is if your vehicle is moved forward by the impact. An average car weighs close to 4,000 lbs. Let’s say you are hit from behind and your car is pushed forward a few feet, but shows no signs of bumper damage. Is it possible to be hurt? Yes, of course. The force required to move a stationary 4,000 lb object is tremendous. Can you walk up to a car sitting at a red light with its brakes on and shove it forward even an inch? Not likely. A collision that is strong enough to propel a car forward by even inches is plenty enough force to cause a whiplash injury.

So, as you have now learned, there really shouldn’t be any dispute on whether a low speed collision can cause injuries. It has been scientifically proven by several studies. It is also a fact that the speed required to cause bodily injury is quite low, a scant 2.5 mph. It has also been shown that any accident that causes damage to the rear bumper is likely to cause injuries and even in accidents where there is no outward physical damage to the vehicle, there may still be sufficient forces involved to cause bodily injuries.

Many years ago, and still in some European countries, the liver is actively considered with such comments as “I think that I have a cold on my liver”. Now, we scarcely consider our liver, which is one of the very vital organs of our body, making up to 20% of our body weight.

The liver is “the toxic waste dump’ of our body and processes toxins into a state that they can be eliminated from our body. Some toxins require a lot of metabolic energy and are sent from one section of the liver to another for processing. It is no wonder that our livers can be overloaded and made vulnerable to the degenerative disease of cancer.

There are two basic kinds of liver cancer. They are a hepotoma and cholangio carcinoma which is caused by a parasite called a liver fluke. Primary this form of cancer occurs usually occurs in people over 60 years old, and occurs twice as often in men as in women.

The liver is usually not the primary site of cancer. It is usually the result of metastasis from another location.

One successful treatment of cancer of the liver is EMBOLOTHERAPY wherein very small pellets, called mocrospheres, into an artery leading to the cancer site in the liver. The pellets form plugs in the capillaries to the cancer and starve it.

The prognosis is that most patients succumb within 6 months of diagnosis.

Examples tattoos honoring your kids

This article is about “Examples tattoos honoring your kids”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “Examples tattoos honoring your kids”:

Celtic Tattoos are at least as well-liked by ladies as with men. I wouldn’t be confounded though, if I have seen more women who chose Celtic tribal tattoos than brothers.

Celtic tribal tattoos’ patterns and art are cool thanks to the androgyny of the design concept. Most of the layouts work as well for men as for girls. Though this is correct maybe uniquely so in the sorts of styles, i did need to mention one or two examples of Celtic Tattoos that are uniquely appropriated by women.

Female Tattoos based on Celtic symbols are a nice example of this. Regardless of if you are a woman who didn’t have a sister growing up, or those of us who are lucky enough to find a bond between women, sisterhood Celtic tribal tattoos provide a wonderful way to celebrate and honor your special, lifelong relationship. The symbol for sisterhood is a triangle with a curved line flowing from each point. It’s an chicly easy emblem that represents the 3 ages of lady; maiden, mother and crone. They’re archaic words, used respectfully at the time. Anyhow, I actually like this symbol, because it stands for the sisterhood of all girls on earth, as well as the bond between sister and brother.

It’s a simple and traditional device, and works as well on the back of the neck as in a distinguished place like a higher arm. However, in the mummy symbol, the three curved lines continue into a spiral. The triple mother goddess was an ancient British deity known as the Matres Domesticae. She stood for fertility, harvest, good health, and the hunt. She used to be a figure of bounty and benevolence.

Celtic tribal tattoos for femininity, sisterhood, and parenthood have in common a symbol called the triquetra, and as in cultures the world over, it utilises a symbolical number three. The triquetra can be combined with designs like heart, mummy and child, or other symbols of your preference to further personalize your Tattoos based on Celtic symbols in a way that is most significant to you. Often referred to as the classic lover’s knot, this layout shows two continuous rings that wind around each other in an unbroken and everlasting path. But there is no reason to forget them! The Vikings had girls warriors, very proficient and brave.

These are just a only a few concepts of the Celtic designs that might be attractive to ladies.

There are plenty of ways for Celtic tattoos to be customized to your individual wants. The location, for example, truly makes a great difference in the impact of the imprint on your body, whether you choose a lumbar region design, a neck, or lower leg location. Further personalization might include the addition of an initial or short quotation, maybe in Irish or Scottish. You could blend your triquetra with a bull, bear, or other Celtic animal. The chances are pretty endless.

Tattoos based on Celtic symbols are grand, and you will be looking at a lot of them, but regardless of what you decide on, make sure you like it, and get samples of your tattooists handiwork. You need to be sure she or he works well in the style that you’ve selected for your unique design. Most significantly, enjoy your design!

Align after gallbladder surgery

Interview with author Yvonne Perry who discusses afterlife, neath death experiences, and death and dying.

Reader Views is pleased to interview Yvonne Perry, author of “More Than Meets the Eye: True Stories about Death, Dying and Afterlife,” a collection of true stores about interacting with spirit. Welcome Yvonne.

Irene: Yvonne, what inspired you to write “More Than Meets the Eye: True Stores About Death, Dying and Afterlife”?

Yvonne: I have always been curious about the other side, but while my uncle was on life support for almost a year, I kept sensing that I was being visited by his spirit. Moments after he passed away, (before my mother called to share the news) I heard my uncle’s voice in my head and knew that he had passed. He told me what songs he wanted me to play and sing at his funeral. I hadn’t yet been asked to play, but when my mother did call to tell me my uncle had passed, she also requested I sing and play for the funeral. Of course the songs my aunt picked were the same songs my uncle had requested during his supernatural visit. I sensed my uncle’s presence at the ceremony so strongly that I could only smile while everyone else was crying. To me, he had not “gone” anywhere. He was closer than ever.

Irene: Did you have a close connection with your uncle while he was alive?

Yvonne: Not really and that is why it was so strange that he chose to connect with me. He lived in at least 20 hours away so I only saw him once a year. Somehow our spirits were more connected than our lives intertwined.

Irene: Your book is about quite a touchy subject that most people are afraid to talk about. How would you encourage people to face the subject and read your book?

Yvonne: I think most people are afraid of things they do not understand, and they either try to avoid the matter or find a way to invalidate their experience. The American view of death and afterlife is deeply rooted in fearful superstition and religious dogma that suggests punishment for sin. Much of this does not align with the experiences had by people who have had a glimpse of the other side. Due to fear of being rejected by family, friends and religious organizations, people are not comfortable sharing anything that veers from the path of what society considers “normal.” I find that when I talk about my spiritual experiences, people are genuinely interested and they feel safe enough to share similar encounters they have had. Once the ice is broken, they find the conversation so comforting and liberating, they want to read my book.

Irene: What do you mean by spiritual experiences?

Yvonne: communicating with the spirits of deceased people, having non-physical beings (angels, guides) interact with me, remembering parts of my past lives, picking up on another person’s energy field i.e.: knowing what is going on with them physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Irene: In your book you talk about experiences that some people have had. Most have the same experience. Would you please tell us about the commonality that occurs?

Yvonne: First, I need to determine if you are referring to the near-death or out-of-body experiences or to spirit communication with the deceased.

1. The NDE: The most common things experienced are: a feeling of unconditional love, a life review, being able to communicate telepathically, seeing deceased loved ones or angelic beings, seeing a light or tunnel, being given a choice of staying there or coming back to the present life, and accessing knowledge or record books pertaining to their life’s mission.

2. Spirit Communication: Most people who are energy sensitive are able to see, hear, sense or feel a presence in the room with them and are able to communicate telepathically with the being. Commonly, a bit of knowledge or a request is exchanged in the encounter.

Irene: What is the difference between near-death or out-of-body experiences?

Yvonne: A near-death experience occurs when a person is in a life-threatening situation or is actually pronounced dead then returns to the body. An out-of-body experience can occur during a life-threatening situation, or while in meditation or sleep (astral travel). Some people are able to have an out-of-body experience at will.

Irene: You have had some “close calls” yourself. Tell us about your near-death experience.

Yvonne: In 1977, I was burned in a grease fire that my brother and I set while our parents were not home. In my effort to put out the fire, I picked up the flaming skillet and started walking toward the door to get the pan out of the house. My hand caught fire, so I sat the flaming skillet down on the table to extinguish my hand. The tablecloth caught fire. I picked up the flaming skillet again and threw it through the screen door. Grease splattered everywhere; I slipped and fell to the floor. I was then aware of myself in two dimensions: from above the scene near the ceiling where I was looking down, as well as in my body as I sat inside the wall of flames. I remember feeling no pain; I was not panicking and felt totally peaceful even by the thought of dying. While my body instinctly kicked and tried to get out of harm’s way, I saw my life flash before my eyes and read a quick glimpse of my obituary in a newspaper column. I saw my parents saddened and grieving for me and I knew I had to live. It all happened in the flash of a second and when I re-entered my body, which had suffered 1st, 2nd and severe 3rd degree burns, I immediately felt excruciating pain and wanted to go back to the peaceful place where I had been hovering. The fire had completely gone out when I got up from the floor. I have not feared death since that day.

In 1988, I had emergency gall-bladder surgery to remove a gallstone that was blocking my bile duct and causing my gall-bladder to perforate. Toxins were starting to leak into my body and I had a sense that I was dying. Even so, I knew everything was going to be fine and I felt no sense of panic or fear. I had seen a huge, bright light either in a dream-like drug-induced state or in an experience I had while under anesthesia. When I awoke in the recovery room, I asked if I was still in heaven. A nurse answered, “Not hardly.” I was so angry to be back in my body on earth and having lived through the surgery. I did not want to be here. It took me years to get past the feeling that I had somehow been cheated by having to come back.

Irene: In “More Thank Meets the Eye” you address suicide and some peoples beliefs as to what happens after suicide. What is your opinion of what happens to the person and what do you base your belief on?

Yvonne: I no longer believe in a punishing God. I do believe that the eternal soul incarnates from body to body on its evolutionary path. I believe we create our own heaven and hell by the beliefs we own and the choices we make. Therefore, I realize that we are here for a purpose that our soul knows quite well regardless of what our conscious mind tells us. With certain things to accomplish in a lifetime, a soul who leaves a body prematurely will need to come back into a human body to complete the assignment. It only makes sense that a suicide is the result of a soul deciding to abort its mission. Once that soul reaches the other side, it realizes the mistake, gains insight about what needs to change, then prepares to come back to finish what it started. I base this upon what people have shared with me from their own supernatural experiences, research I have done and what the soul of a suicide victim showed me when I inquired of him on behalf of his mother who was severely grieving and troubled over what might happen to him as a result of his actions.

Irene: You talk to souls of people that are deceased? Explain to our readers how you do this.

Yvonne: I rarely initiate contact with a deceased spirit unless I am asked by a living relative and feel it is in the best interest of everyone involved to do so. However, there are times when I am in public that I accidentally tap into someone’s field. There are also times when I am alone and sense a presence wanting to make contact with me. In any of these instances, I may hear voices in my head that I know are not my own thoughts, or sense an energetic shift around me; I may feel a sensation as if someone is touching me, or I may see a mist or grey cloud hovering. Many times it is simply a sense of “knowing” some bit of information that has not been revealed to me in traditional ways such as sensing when a woman is pregnant when she hasn’t told anyone.

There have been times when spirits, not so lovingly have tried to attach to me. One actually broke a glass bowl in my kitchen to get my attention. Since then, I have set strong boundaries with the spirit world and they know not to contact me, enter my home or tap into my field without my permission. I have asked my angels and guides to set a watch around me and keep out intruders who have foul intentions. This is very necessary for anyone who is energy sensitive and finds themselves picking up illnesses or experiencing mood swings that have no logical source.

Irene: There are a lot of controversial thoughts around euthanasia, and you explain two types in your book. Late Dr. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross, a renowned expert on death and dying, has changed many people’s thinking about their last days of life. She felt that euthanasia robbed people from completing their lessons and resolving issues that occurred during one’s life. What are your thoughts on this subject and why?

Yvonne: I respect and value Dr. Ross’s views about a soul needing time at the end of a life cycle to complete whatever unfinished business remains. I also consider the natural course of action a body in the same condition would have taken 100 years ago when we did not have life support technology and equipment. The most natural course for a body that has no hope of survival would be to allow the spirit to leave and the body fade away. Life support is a valuable tool for helping a person revive and live a healthy life. While each case is unique and should be approached individually, it is not usually in the best interest of the patient or his/her family to support a body in a vegetative state. Realizing that the soul has many more opportunities in the Afterlife and future lifetimes to resolve its issues and complete its evolution, it makes no sense to keep a soul imprisoned in a body that has no hope of recovery.

Irene: If you were to take the most important point from your book and share it with your readers, what would it be?

Yvonne: Listen to your inner voice, intuition or Holy Spirit (whatever you choose to call it) and you will find direction in fulfilling your life’s purpose. Interact with your guides and angels. Grieving the loss of a loved one is normal and everyone needs to allow themselves to feel legitimate emotions. However, the fear of death is an irrational fear. Death is just another realm of consciousness for which our spirit is preparing to enter. Letting go is much easier when you know that your loved one, not bound my human restraints, is happy and able to be near you in spirit.

Irene: Is there anything else that you would like readers to know about you or your book?

Yvonne: Make sure you have a living will. This removes your family’s burden and any guilt associated with making critical medical decisions for you should you be unable to do so. There is a free copy of a legal living will that you may download from my website: [http://www.yvonneperry.net/books.htm].
